As We move closer and closer to the start of grassroots basketball, there are several players that I was interested in seeing before the shut down, now after two months off, the anticipation has only grown. I’ve spoken with some coaches and had a chance to check out practices, allowing me to identify players prepared to make a splash once we restart. In this article PH highlights some players to keep an eye on as the grassroots season slowly returns.
Ethan Speaker Ethan Speaker 6'6" | SF Boulder City | 2021 State NV 6’6 SF Las Vegas Knicks 2021 (#8PHN 2021) – Speaker is an under the radar player ready to explode. A versatile offensive player that can score from all three levels, Speaker has started receiving interest from the likes of UC San DIego, and UC Irvine.
Tavionte Jackson Tavionte Jackson 6'1" | PG Las Vegas | 2022 NV 6’1 PG Nevada Hard 2 Guard (#5PHN 2022) – Jackson recently tore it up in a tournament in Arizona, helping his team to the title. He hasn’t received the interest yet, however that only makes him one of the top sleepers. I expect him to generate a ton of buzz with his scoring and playmaking, once play becomes more consistent.
Chris Dockery Chris Dockery 6'5" | SF Bonanza | 2021 CA-S 6’5 SF Las Vegas Knicks 2021 (#17PHN 2021) – The return of Dockery is greatly anticipated throughout the city. His injury has been well documented, however he has made a full recovery and many coaches are anxious to see his playmaking and run and jump athleticism on display.
Ryder Elisaldez Ryder Elisaldez 6'1" | CG Bishop Gorman | 2024 State NV 6’1 SG Vegas Elite 2024 (#10PHN 2024) – Elisaldez is one of the top run and jump athletes in his class, playing for one of the top programs on the west coast. A good defender, with explosive leaping ability, Elisaldez is one highlight play away from dropping jaws throughout the West Coast.
Noah Westbrook Noah Westbrook 6'6" | PF Bishop Gorman | 2024 NV 6’5 PF Vegas Elite 2024 (#4PHN 2024) – Westbrook has quickly become one of my favorite players in the state to watch. He combines a high IQ with a high skill level, and a powerful frame. Anyone that watches him will never discover a player that just blends in. Westbrook makes impact plays in several aspects of the game, including passing, rebounding and 3 point shooting.
Marcus Fizer Jr Marcus Fizer Jr 6'6" | SG Phhoenix Prep | 2024 State AZ 6’4 SG Las Vegas Punishers (#3PHN 2023) (featured image) – There will be a lot of eyes on Fizer after he missed the end of his freshmen season with a calf injury. He has all the tools to be a big time player, and was recently ranked #77 in out National rankings. It’s just a matter of seeing if he’s healthy, and still possess that lethal jump shot.
Keenan Bey Keenan Bey 6'6" | SF Bishop Gorman | 2023 State NV 6’5 SF Vegas Elite 2023 (#8PHN 2023) – Bey has the bloodlines and the physique. After playing JV at Gorman, many are waiting to see him compete against top competition in his class. Bey is a strong driver with a good 1 on 1 game and a skill set that translates nicely to the next level.
