Continue ReadingIt has been a strange grassroots season to say the least. Due to circumstances behind their control, several players have missed the opportunity to really put their names at the top of mind of college coaches and scouts. This is a continuation of a piece I wrote back in March highlighting 5 players that I believed were ready for a breakout grassroots season. In this article we take a look at 5 more players prepared to do the same thing this summer.
Mason Mich’l Mason Mich’l 6'7" | PF Desert Oasis | 2021 State NV 6’7 PF Hard 2 Guard 2021 (#42PHN 2021) – Let the stock rising talk begin for Mich’l. Almost as a knee jerk reaction coaches always tell me that they are looking for athletic Bigs and Wings. Insert Mich’l. He’s an explosive leaper that honestly might not even realize how good he is. He is fluid enough to hedge ball screens, can stretch the floor and is an explosive finisher at the rim. It’s only going to take the right coach watching him put on a performance like he did at the Phhacility Exposure camp a few weeks ago, for the offers to start coming in for him.
Jan Madi Ngock Jan Madi Ngock 6'6" | PF Trinity | 2021 State NV 6’7 PF Simply Fundamentals (#7PHN 2021) (featured image) – The import from Switzerland has the same type of explosion as Mich’l. He’s probably even more fluid when it comes to hedging and switching ball screens. JMN can step out and hit the occasional outside jumper, but where he is different is his ability to play P&R basketball as the screener. IMO he’s a clear D1 guy that currently has no offers.
Aaron Price Aaron Price 6'7" | PF Liberty | 2022 State NV 6’5 PF Vegas Elite 2022 (#14PHN 2022) – There is no player that I’m more anxious to see play than Price. Here’s a guy that plays top competition in both his high school season, and during AAU. A freak athlete that plays above the rim, if Price never made another jumper he would still have value as a defender and rebounder for someone at the college level.
Keenan Bey Keenan Bey 6'6" | SF Bishop Gorman | 2023 State NV 6’5 SF Vegas Elite 2023 (#8PHN 2023) – Honestly the expectations that Bey faces almost seems unfair. He comes from a well known basketball family and many expect him to follow in the footsteps of his high touted brother and cousin. The reality is, he only has to be Keenan Bey Keenan Bey 6'6" | SF Bishop Gorman | 2023 State NV , and what he is is a talented wing with the ability to put the ball on the deck and make plays for himself. He has good length and size for a college wing, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he turned heads immediately with his play this summer.
Noah Westbrook Noah Westbrook 6'6" | PF Bishop Gorman | 2024 NV 6’6 PF Vegas Elite 2024 (#4PHN 2024) – I have been intrigued by Westbrook since, I watched him perform in Made Hoops. He is a skilled post who has the potential to be a traditional stretch 4. While his shooting is obvious, what I like most about him is his ability to pass the basketball. Westbrook has a high IQ and is willing to thread the needle with his passes. It’s rare that you get a big that is even willing to pass the ball at that age, much less one that displays such vision and accuracy.
