Below I’ll break down a group of prospects who have stood out amongst the rest of the pack and are ready to make a name for themselves and become difference makers.
Jakhary Towns Jakhary Towns 6'1" | SG Godwin Heights | 2023 State MI | 5’11 CG| Godwin Heights
Jakhary is arguably the most established prospect from the 2023 class for a number of reasons. He’s an elite shooter who can fill it up from any spot on the court, and he has the confidence to take any shot. He hardly looks like an underclassmen in his tape, let alone a freshman. He went up against future collegiate guards who were three years older than him and held his own, often times getting the best of his opponent. In addition to his shooting, Jakhary flashed an excellent handle and can get past his man without forcing the issue. As he continues to grow and develop, Jakhary will be on many college scouts radars, if he already isn’t right now.
Harrison Sorrelle Harrison Sorrelle 6'6" | CG Grand Haven | 2023 MI | 6’4″ CG | Grand Haven
There’s a lot to love about a 6’4″ guard that can handle the ball and play up-to-speed in the OK Red as a freshman. Harrison has shown he can thrash through the paint to get a tough bucket, often converting shots at awkward angles. Harrison can also knock down perimeter jumper consistently, adding another threat to when he’s on the court. A relative unknown as of now, expect Harrison to be on every coach and scouts radar sooner than later.
Kaden Brown Kaden Brown 5'10" | PG Grand Rapids Catholic Central | 2023 State MI | 5’10″ PG | Grand Rapids Catholic Central
Kaden is next up in the line of talent to come through Grand Rapids Catholic Central. The gifted point guard has been impressing for some years now in the grassroots ranks and is now primed to show the area what he can do. Kaden has a great handle and the ability to slow the game around him. He’s also an excellent passer and can set up his teammates off the dribble drive in the half court as well as in transition.
Jordan Briggs Jordan Briggs 6'0" | PG Muskegon | 2023 State MI | 5’10″ PG | Muskegon
Jordan is one of the better ball handlers I’ve seen in the 2023 class from the Grand Rapids area. He’s flashed a deadly hesitation move, cross over, start-and-stop, all leaving defenders behind. In addition to his dribbling ability, Jordan has a unique mid-range game, allowing himself to score over defenders who have a considerable height advantage. Jordan’s development will be fun to watch as he matures in Muskegon’s system
Damarie Thompson Damarie Thompson 5'10" | PG Godwin Heights | 2023 State MI | 5’10″ PG | Godwin Heights
Damarie is another talented rising sophomore in Godwin Height’s program. Damarie made a splash in his varsity debut this past season, scoring 17 points in 24 minutes against Wayland Union in the Cornerstone University Holiday Tournament. From the jump, Damarie was a natural in Godwin’s offensive sets and spaced the floor effectively in transition. He’s a gifted scorer who can check his own on the defensive end. Expect Damarie to be heavily involved in the Wolverines offense in 2020-21.
Tyran Thomas Tyran Thomas 6'4" | SG Northview | 2023 State MI | 6’2″ SG | Northview
Tyran is yet another playmaker from Northview who is primed to make a name for himself this upcoming season. Tyran has flashed untapped athleticism who can guard multiple positions on the court. On the offensive end, he spaces the floor well and can attack defenders with with his back to the basket in the post or from the wing off the driblble. Northview has yet another weapon in Tyran to add to an already loaded program.
