Lots of competitive basketball was on display with FTL Elite National Orange taking out Team TMac in the finals 47-40. I tried my best to make it to as many games as possible, from what I was able to watch these are some of the player who showed promise:
PF Hebreux Aime 6-5 (West Melbourne Select) High School: Heritage (Palm Bay)
Understanding who you are on the basketball court is imperative to obtaining success as a player. Aime knows exactly who he is, a physical specimen that mixes it up in the post. In the games I watched, he finished off of pick and rolls, showed some nice back to the basket moves, and battled through contact to finish and-ones. A solid rebounder, Aime bodies up in the post using his strength to make life difficult for the offense. As he continues to polish his midrange game, his list of suitors will continue to grow. Off the court the bruiser holds a 3.6 GPA. Expect a huge senior year out of the under the radar big man!
CG Hunter Davidson Hunter Davidson 6'4" | PG Melbourne Central Catholic | 2021 State FL 6-4 (West Melbourne Select) High School: Florida Prep Academy
A lead guard with some size, Davidson had some very impressive moments this weekend. On offense, he scored from all three levels draining guarded threes, getting by defenders to either finish, or dish to open teammates. On several occasions Davidson got into the lane finishing floaters, or dribble pull–ups. At times the big guard gets tunnel vision, however there is no doubting his upside. Recruiting, wise Division II and Division III schools have been in touch.
CG Anthony Henson 6-1 (TNBA South) High School: Jones (Orlando)
A serious athlete, Henson gave opposing teams fits, getting into the lane at will. In the games that I watched, he hit step back three’s, used his quick handles to get by defenders, and got a couple dunks in transition. A solid defender, the combo guard rebounds at an extremely high rate for a guy his size. With more opportunities to work on his point guard skills, Henson should be in for a big senior year.
G/F Sageny Horace 6-5 (East Coast United) High School: Centennial (Port St. Lucie)
It’s hard to label Horace with a position. With long arms and quick feet, he is very versatile on the perimeter. This weekend Horace found a lot more success shooting the ball from mid range, and getting to the basket than at AAU Super Regionals. With quick handles and a high basketball IQ, Horace spent a lot of time at the lead guard position. A summer in the weight room would be beneficial for the big guard, who should be poised for a breakout senior season.
PF Rickey Lovette 6-6 (East Coast United) High School: Montgomery County (KY)
Another solid weekend out of the big man with a motor that never stops. In the games I saw he didn’t shoot it quite as well as the previous event, but still shot at a very high percentage. Lovette still was able to score from all over the court, rebound, and block shots against a higher level of competition. With recent mid major Division I, and high Division II interest, now might be a good time for coaches to get acquainted with the bouncy forward.
Other Names and Notes:
SG Joshua Mims 6-2 (West Melbourne Select) High School: Melbourne
Mims has the basketball IQ of a middle- aged college coach. Known mostly as a shooter, this weekend he showed he can get to the basket too, and nobody is better at feeding the post. This summer and fall he is continuing to work on getting stronger.
G/F Almando Cyrius Almando Cyrius 6'4" | SF Vero Beach | 2021 State FL 6-3 (West Melbourne Select) High School: Vero Beach
Cyrius showed some college level athleticism, getting to the basket at will, frequently using spin moves. With quick hands and feet, he also has potential on the defensive end. Shot selection is an area for improvement, however there is huge upside here.
C Nick O’Neill 6-8 (West Melbourne Select) High School: Vero Beach
Another kid that understands his role, O’Neill is big and strong, and does his best work around the basket. A top student with a 3.6 GPA, the Center could have a future as a college basketball player if he chooses that route. I am also told he is a standout on the rowing team.
PF Parker Sasser Parker Sasser 6'8" | PF Hardee | 2021 State FL 6-7 (Team TMac) High School: Hardee
A face up power forward with a feathery touch from mid range, Sasser also has some solid footwork. The big man will benefit from a senior year of lifting weights, and working to expand offensive game. Off the court Sasser is a 4.0 student.
F Nate Cadet 6-4 (Lehigh Blue Devils) High School: Lehigh
The Combo forward showed some upside this weekend. Powerful inside with solid athleticism, Cadet really battles in the post. Expect a big senior season!
G Lokose Natana Lokose Natana 6'2" | SG Parker | 2021 State FL 6-2(BYBB Bulls) High School: Parker
A quick guard that is wired to score, Natana showed the ability to attack the basket. Quick hands, and feet, allow him to be solid on defense as well.
