While it’s still too early to put together a fair numerical ranking for these young prospects, we did come up with an 85-player watchlist of guys to keep an eye on over the next three years.
Earlier this week we posted a four-part series of who could potentially crack the top 5-10 spots if we did decide to publish a true ranking, based on first-year performance and long-term potential. Below we take a look at more players to track over the next three seasons.
Maurice Wright Maurice Wright 6'2" | CG Santa Clarita Christian | 2023 State CA-S , Paraclete – Wright is as high motor and competitive as they come. The explosive 6-footer is difficult to cover in transition and plays with an aggressive slashing scoring mentality on the break. It will be interesting to see if Wright transitions into the point guard or shooting guard mold over the course of his high school development.
Giovanni Goree, Viewpoint – The 5-foot-9 point guard has impressive scoring feel for a 2023 prospect. He can knockdown deep three-point shots off the bounce and off the catch with consistency and uses his speed and strength to get to the rim and finish much bigger than his size.
JJ Bartelloni, Torrey Pines – Bartelloni played junior varsity for the Falcons this season, but when we saw him at Aaron Burgin’s Creme of the County event last fall, the 6-foot-4 shooting guard showed why he’s one of the best freshmen prospects in the San Diego. Bartelloni has fundamental shooting mechanics, a quick release and is a consistent three-point threat from multiple spots and ranges of the floor.
David Manea David Manea 6'6" | SF Orange Lutheran | 2023 CA-S , Beckman – Manea had one of the more productive freshman campaigns in all of Orange County. The 6-foot-5 forward is all business in his game as his size and strength allows him to compete inside with bigs, but his quick twitch speed, ball handling and balance allow him to attack the basket from the perimeter.
