Here’s a look at 4 Rising Juniors who could be in line for breakout Summers and seasons. They are listed in order of their 2022 class rankings.
Jackson Twombly Jackson Twombly 6'7" | PF Woodford County | 2022 State KY , Frankfort – Possibly the most polished post player in the state as far as fundamentals go. Jackson has every post move in the book and can score around the bucket with either hand. Twombly has all the makings of a really good D2 or NAIA stretch 4 or back to the basket 5 and is only limited by his 6’5 or so height as far as being a D1 prospect goes. While he’s not the most active rebounder, his offensive skills make him a really solid small college prospect.
Mitchell Rylee Mitchell Rylee 6'8" | C Covington Catholic | 2022 State KY , Beechwood – One of the lesser known prospects in the class that has a strong chance at playing at the next level, Rylee is 6’8 and possibly still growing. He’s a good rebounder but lacks polish on the offensive end. While he plays with a good motor and is active around the rim, the biggest hurdle for Mitchell going forward is going to be stretching his game beyond the block as there aren’t many strictly low post players any more.
Hayden Burgess Hayden Burgess 6'10" | PF Oldham County | 2022 State KY , Oldham County – Hayden has been a popular name with college coaches the last week since the contact period started for the 22 class. Having added almost 40 pounds to his frame in the last year, Burgess has slowed his growth a little and started to fill out. He still needs to work on improving his overall skill set and becoming an active rebounder but his ceiling as a prospect is way up there thanks to his 6’10 frame.
Lionel Kumwinba Lionel Kumwinba 6'8" | C Paul Laurence Dunbar | 2022 State KY , Dunbar – If there is a player who could make a huge strides in the next year, Kumwinba is high on that list. He’s 6’8 and physical and this season will be the first time he doesn’t have a time share with multiple other post players as 2 post players graduated from Dunbar and a third transferred out. Lionel is going to get a chance to play through his mistakes for the first time ever and that could be the best thing for him.
