Continue ReadingIt came with great sadness that Nike’s Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) was cancelled a few days ago due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The circuit is a critical tool for players to get in front of college scouts and coaches with events across the country. Furthermore, the class of 2021 is adversely effected. Given the circumstance, I would like to dive into a list of players who have earned offers over the past month.
Josh Minott Josh Minott 6'9" | PF St. Andrew's | 2021 State #30 Nation FL – St. Andrew’s Scots
Currently, 6-foot-8 Josh Minott Josh Minott 6'9" | PF St. Andrew's | 2021 State #30 Nation FL places 10th in our 2021 Florida rankings. Minott will general a Scots squad as a senior coming off a 3A state championship. While listed as a three or four, Minott has the physical makeup to be productive at multiple positions. Therefore, you essentially have an athletic guard with a combination of tremendous length and a incredible wingspan. As a junior, Minott averaged 17.2 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists for the Scots. Additionally, Minott shot 54% overall and 31% from behind the 3-point line. Take a second and imagine if he improves on those numbers at all, particularly from the outside. How are you going to guard him? With Yussif-Basa Ama off to Yale, his rim protecting skills are going to be evermore accentuated. Minott averaged nearly a block a game last season.
Recent Offers: West Virginia, Baylor, Texas
Past Offers: Baylor, Florida State, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Stetson, Loyola Marymount, Dayton, Maryland, Oklahoma
Wesley Cardet Jr Wesley Cardet Jr 6'5" | SG West Oaks | 2021 State #117 Nation FL – Northeast Hurricanes
Ranked 7th in our current 2021 rankings, I am pretty comfortable anointing Cardet as a top senior in the region and one of the best players in the state overall. The 6-foot-6 Cardet is a jack-of-all trades as a primary shooting guard. However, college programs have hinted at his ability to play as a point guard. The Oakland Park product can accelerate past similar sized guards and finish at the basket with either hand. Additionally, Cardet can shoot over smaller defenders and body them down when warranted. That size advantage also gives Cardet the upper hand on the rebounding front. As a junior, he posted a season-average of 19 points and ten rebounds. With a talented group returning, expectations are extremely high for the Hurricanes. Recently, the team earned an invitation to the prestigious City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers. In many ways, Cardet reminds me of a compact Andre Iguodala with all the ways he can contribute on the floor.
Recent Offers: Iona, Maryland, Kansas State
Past Offers: Alabama, Florida, Dayton, Iowa State, Southern Cal, Miami
Jameon “JJ” Harris – Northeast Hurricanes
Notice the trend? Northeast is going to be one of the top teams in Broward County and all of South Florida. A 6-foot-3 point guard, Harris will look to spearhead the Hurricanes to state and national glory as a senior. A season ago, Harris averaged 12 points, four rebounds and three assists per game. Harris is a confident shooter from all levels of the floor. Moreover, Harris personifies the #SwagCheck attitude that marks the Hurricanes as a top contender. His hard work in the gym and relentless motor will have more programs come calling.
Recent Offers: Samford
Past Offers: Ole Miss, Stetson
Justin Neely Justin Neely 6'5" | CG West Oaks | 2021 State FL – Miami High Stingarees
Named as the MVP for Miami-Dade County, Neely currently ranks 23rd in our state rankings. If last season is any indication, the 6-foot-5 superstar will continue to climb. While it seems unfathomable to justify a player with a 60-point game as a “sleeper”, Neely feels collegiality underrated as a small forward/shooting guard. As a junior, he averaged a whopping 27.2 points, 12.3 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game. Digging into those numbers, you will find one of the best mid-range shooters in the region. I watched Neely pull-up and knock down 12-to-15 footers on repeat. Additionally, his passing skills are extremely well utilized in the Stingarees system.
Recent Offers: Temple, Washington State, Rice
Past Offers: Virginia Commonwealth, Texas-San Antonio
