There’s a chance all of the major shoe circuits take the same approach, but that’s not reason for us not to shed light on the AAU teams that were constructed with their rosters awaiting clearance from COVID-19. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be highlighting some of the local programs, as many of their players would’ve been beneficiaries of a spring/summer travel stage.
We’ll take a look at a number of players who’d be featured on Maryland 3D’s roster. As a program, they usually have two 17U teams. Part two of this list will release tomorrow.
Cam Brown | 6’7 | Perkiomen Prep ’21
Brown is a 6-foot-7 forward with good size and strength who relies on his IQ and feel for the game rather than athleticism. He’s an efficient finisher around the rim and brings energy and a presence on the glass both offensively and defensively.
Joseph Cottle | 6’4 | La Plata ’21
Cottle is a 6-foot-4 guard with sneaky athleticism that allows him for over the rim finishes in transition, but in the half court he can get it going from three off the catch. He’s a competitive defender who shows decent lateral quickness. Cottle is an under the radar prospects that programs could benefit from looking into.
Mark Rachic Mark Rachic 6'2" | CG Calvert | 2021 OH | 6’2 | Calvert ’21
Rachic is a 6-foot-2 guard who plays extremely hard and uses his athleticism to help finish around the basket. He’s a capable shooter off the bounce in the mid-range and has potential to be a solid shooter from deep off the catch. Rachic plays with energy on the defensive end, which is shown in his activity while in passing lanes.
Matt Cooper | 6’2 | Gilman ’21
Cooper is a 6-foot-2 guard who makes his impact from beyond the arc as a shooter. He’ll also finish efficiently as a finisher around the basket in transition, but he’s at his best on catch-and-shoot situations. Cooper has good strength for his size, making him a decent rebounder for a guard.
Jaiden Jakubowski Jaiden Jakubowski 6'0" | CG John Carroll | 2021 MD | 6’2 | John Carroll ’21
Jakubowski is another 6-foot-2 shooter on this 3D squad. He’s tremendous moving without the ball coming off screens ready to shoot. He has a quick release that doesn’t require him bringing the ball down around his hips on his load-up. He’s a heady defender who is willing to take charges and get on the floor for 50/50’s.
Jaylen Amoruso | 6’3 | Dulaney ’21
Amoruso could be the most energetic player I’ve seen since covering high school. He simply doesn’t run out of energy. He’s 6-foot-3 with explosive athleticism. While all these things are valuable, Amoruso’s development going forward should be about channeling that energy and using it efficiently. He’s a violent finisher around the rim but is still limited as a jump shooter.
Jalen Bouknight | 6’0 | Archbishop Spalding ’21
Bouknight is a 6-foot lead guard who can operate effectively in high ball-screen scenarios. His ability to hit shots from mid-range or three off the bounce combined with his comfort in finishing with either hand around the rim demands the defense’s attention. He’s a crafty guard with his handles and his finishes that help him when being contested by bigger or quicker matchups.
Lance Richards | 6’7 | Chapelgate ’21
Richards possesses good size and length at 6-foot-7. At this point, he’s a long and skinny wing that can play some stretch four as well. He’s a good finisher in the paint and uses soft touch on his drives. Richards plays with good energy and can impact the glass on both ends. As he continues to develop, he could be a nice prospect who blooms late.
Max Pearcy | 6’0 | Glenelg ’21
Pearcy is a well-balanced guard who can play either on or off the ball. He mixes it up well as a scorer where he can get downhill and finish at the basket or be used as a shooter coming off screens. Pearcy can supply ball pressure and play disciplined on the defense end.
