Omaha Sports Academy hosted their tryouts at the Iowa West Field House in Council Bluffs on Sunday the 14th and they were gracious enough to let me come by to get a look at some under the radar players in the upcoming sophomore class. Here are the 10 players (in no order) that stood out from Omaha Sports Academy’s 15u tryouts.
Ben Boudreau
Boudreau is a smart point guard from Papillion LaVista that works hard on the defensive end. He has quick feet and can pressure and frustrate ball handlers defensively. He takes care of the ball and is a good spot up shooter from three.
Gabe Edstrand
Edstrand is a fast wing/forward from Skutt Catholic that can push the ball in transition. He has good footwork around the rim and in traffic, especially on hop steps getting onto two feet. He has some post up skill and can knock down uncontested three point shots.
Jackson Moeller Swan
Moeller-Swan is a long forward from Elkhorn South that scores well on the interior. He looks to draw fouls and can finish through contact using his length to score over defenders. He does a good job finding space around the basket and can help as a rebounder.
Devyn Jones
Jones is a strong and scrappy forward from Papillion LaVista South that runs the floor and gets downhill in transition. He absorbs contacts and can finish with either hand. He is physical, but can also avoid shot blocker with fancy footwork on scoring moves.
Cameron Daniel
Daniels is a point guard from Millard West that can manage the game and initiate an offense. He can push the pace and has good vision to find teammates running in transition. He can also play with patients and slow the game down. He has good hands defensively and is a decent spot up shooter.
JJ Ferrin
Ferrin is a combo guard and ball handler from Bellevue West that is a solid shooter from three. He shows flashes of being able to break down defenders with the dribble and create shots for himself and others.
Max Nosal
Nosal is a high energy player from Bergan Catholic with quickness and size on the perimeter. He is an aggressive defender that keeps ball handlers in front of him, forces turnovers, and speeds up offensives with his activity.
Evan Werner
Werner is a long wing shooter from Elkhorn South. He is unselfish offensively, makes good decisions, and can handle the ball well enough to attack close outs and create for himself a little bit.
Mitch Scholl
Scholl is a big and strong post player from Skutt Catholic that moves well and can score from everywhere on the court. He was unstoppable during tryouts, taking anyone he wanted inside and scoring in the post or finding space on the perimeter to bury three pointer after three pointer. Scholl was the big winner of the 15u tryouts, securing the final roster spot on the OSA Adidas team.
Alec Noonan
Noonan is an aggressive scoring guard from Elkhorn South that impressed me with his ability to get to the rim and make plays in transition. He plays under control and can navigate through traffic to get good looks for himself and others. He is a good athlete with solid footwork on scoring moves around the basket.
