The initial rankings are just the beginning for these young stars, and the rankings will certainly look different 3 years from now. That being said, who are some players that jump out, that could really move up these rankings in the future? Here are 10 that caught my eye:
Chuck Bailey III (PG, Birmingham Groves)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #22
Bailey III is a top 10-15 talent with D1 potential in a stacked class at the top. As we see more of him, the ranking for the playmaker is destined to move up.
Henry Garrity (SF, Brother Rice)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #26
Garrity is one of the top wing talents in the class. Sky is the limit for this young athlete. Garrity is part of a loaded 2023 class at Brother Rice.
John Blackwell John Blackwell 6'3" | CG Brother Rice | 2023 State #185 Nation MI (SG, Novi Christian Academy)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #34
Blackwell’s ranking would have been aided greatly by a full grassroots season and the opportunities for us to see him there. He’s a shooting guard with as high of a ceiling as almost any 2023 prospect.
DJ Lee DJ Lee 6'4" | SF Detroit Catholic Central | 2023 State MI (SF, Bloomfield Hills)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #35
Lee had flashes of brilliance in his freshman season. As he continues to grow as a player, there’s no reason he can’t slide up the list.
John McCrear (PF, Ypsilanti-Lincoln)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #51
McCrear has a ton of potential. He’s so active when on the floor and really attacks the ball off the rim looking the rebound.
Teddy Williams Teddy Williams 6'6" | PF Grand Ledge | 2023 State MI (PF, Grand Ledge)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #55
Williams has the potential to be one of the top post players in the class. He’ll be a double-double threat every night for the next 3 years.
Brian Hunter Brian Hunter 5'6" | PG Roseville | 2023 State MI (PG, Roseville)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #75
Hunter is a lightning quick floor general. He utilizes his quick feet and start-stop speed on both ends.
Damarie Thompson Damarie Thompson 5'10" | PG Godwin Heights | 2023 State MI (PG, Godwin Heights)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #78
I’m really latching on to Thompson as a prospect. He had some really nice moments as a freshman and could form a nasty backcourt over the next 3 years with fellow 2023, Jahkary Towns.
Jack Yanachik Jack Yanachik 6'1" | SF Warren De La Salle | 2023 State MI (SF, Warren De La Salle)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #86
Yanachik is a player that everyone needs to keep an eye on. He will be a weapon on the wing for De La Salle next season. Yanachik, in my opinion, has a HUGE upside.
