Ismael Plet Ismael Plet 6'7" | PF VES | 2020 State VA | 6’7” PF | VES (#23 Overall)
Commitment: Oral Roberts
Plet has been a steady contributor and one of the most productive bigs in the VISAA over the past few seasons, and Oral Roberts lucked up big time by getting a guy who is ready both physically and athletically to translate to the next level immediately. He’s a strong, high motor and athletic big man who can own the paint and guard multiple positions, and he has room to improve moving forward.
Jamal Barnes Jamal Barnes 6'3" | SF St. Stephen's St. Agnes | 2020 State VA | 6’2” WG | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes (#33 Overall)
Commitment: St. Thomas Acquinas (D2 NY)
STAQ is considered one of the top D2 programs on the east coast over the past few years, and they get a guy in Barnes who has played high level competition and contributed for years on a winning program that’s very well coached in SSSAS. He’s a state champion and was a part of a class that put all five starters at the scholarship level. Barnes is a knock down shooter who makes an impact on both ends, has a great IQ and has tools that will be successful in multiple systems.
Justin Fatherly Justin Fatherly 6'4" | CG Nansemond River | 2020 State VA | 6’2” WG | Nansemond-River (#52 Overall)
Commitment: MOTT CC (JUCO MI)
Fatherly is a guy who could see himself at a division one school after a few years at MOTT, and he was one of the top players in the 757 this season. In our Prep Hoops VA Senior teams, he was named First Team All 757 and Second Team All State after being the top scorer in the 757 in points per game. He’s a well rounded wing who comes at you over and over again, he’s a crafty scorer who knows how to create his own shot and he has great tools to be a good defender at the next level as well.
Jahn Hines Jahn Hines 6'4" | SF Norview | 2020 State VA | 6’3” F | Norview (#60 Overall)
Commitment: CNU
Hines was extremely coveted by almost all of the division three schools in the state, and he was a big reason that Norview won the Class 5 State Championship this year. He played out of position as one of the tallest guys on the team, but he accepted the role and was a mismatch with his ability to score on the perimeter both off the catch and off the bounce, and his length and athleticism allowed him to be a good rebounder and defender as well. He joins a CNU class that is stacked with talent coming in.
Jamaal Madison Jamaal Madison 5'9" | PG Norview | 2020 State VA | 5’9” PG | Norview (#86 Overall)
Commitment: CNU
Hine’s teammate who will also join him at CNU, Madison had a breakout year as one of the top point guards in the 757 and he steadily improved over time. He’s a dual threat guy who sets the tone on both ends of the floor, he can shoot it from deep and get in the lane at will and he’s an excellent set up guy who knows where his teammates are and doesn’t force things when he gets around the rim. With Madison and Hines joining CNU, that gives them seven commits within the Prep Hoops VA Top 150 to my count.
Kaleb Coleman Kaleb Coleman 6'1" | CG Matoaca | 2020 State VA | 6’0” G | Hopewell (#95 Overall)
Commitment: Richard-Bland
Second year coach Andrew Lacey is taking care of home in this recruiting class as Coleman is the sixth commit within VA that I know about. Coleman has been an impact guard in his four years of high school as he started for three years at Matoaca before transferring to Hopewell for his senior year. He’s a strong and dynamic combo guard that thrives in transition, lives in the paint and is an athletic finisher around the rim. He has some toughness to him and still has room to get better moving forward.
Chris Miers Chris Miers 6'1" | SG Chantilly | 2020 State VA | 6’0” G | Chantilly (#112 Overall)
Commitment: York College
I missed this one from Miers earlier but he’s following a trend of a number of NOVA players taking the short trip to PA to play college basketball. Miers is a knock down shooter with surprising athleticism, and he’s a guy who brings it on both ends of the floor and finds different ways to impact the game. He has a good IQ and is a great motor and is a high character kid from what I’ve been told as well.
Jadon White Jadon White 6'1" | CG Tuscarora | 2020 State VA | 6’1” G | Tuscarora (#135 Overall)
Commitment: Arcadia (D3 PA)
White was quietly one of the best guards in the NOVA area this year and will head to PA to play at D3 Arcadia next year. He has good size and is a natural athlete that showed over the course of his career that he can play both on and off the basketball. He’s athletic and strong enough to finish above the rim and with both hands in traffic, he can create his own shot and can fill it up from all three levels as well.
Daniel Beyer | 5’8” PG | Glen Allen
Commitment: Chatham University (D3 PA)
Beyer isn’t the biggest name or player in the Richmond area, but what he lacks in size he makes up for in toughness and skill set. He’s a gritty kid who leaves it all on the floor and will do whatever it takes to help his team win, he can run the show and make others better and he’s a deadly shooter from behind the arc. Chatham out of Pittsburgh did their homework and could end up with a steal in this one.
Ryan Wheeler | 6’5” PF | Glen Allen
Commitment: Shenandoah
Wheeler came on strong during his senior season and chose Shenandoah over a number of other D3 schools, adding to an already good class for them. At his size, Wheeler is a guy who is a mismatch at that level because he can flat out shoot the rock from deep. He has good form and a quick release, and he’s a steady rebounder and plays with a chip as well.
Lamondre Gregg | 6’0” G | Meadowbrook
Commitment: Vance-Granville (JUCO NC)
Gregg is a guy I’m kicking myself for leaving out of the rankings because he did a great job helping a Meadowbrook team that many didn’t think would be as good as they were this year. He has a great mindset at he’s tough, physical and will come at whoever is put in front of him. He’s skilled and dynamic, he thrives when he can get downhill and finish through traffic and he’s a solid defender both on and off the ball as well.
