Scoring is not the only key piece to creating a college-level basketball player, but it definitely helps pinpoint an important attribute.
Here’s a look at those five players:
Wiley Sherburne Wiley Sherburne 6'4" | PF Janesville | 2022 State IA , Janesville (2022)
Behind the scoring of Wiley Sherburne Wiley Sherburne 6'4" | PF Janesville | 2022 State IA , Janesville put together a run to the Class 1A substate semifinal round.
Sherburne scored 410 total points at just under 18 per game, shooting 58 percent from the field. He also found himself getting to the free throw line with 150 attempts and even adding in a handful of made 3-pointers.
Analysis: With classmates Jaden Appleby and Leo Dodd, and senior-to-be Joey Carlson returning, Janesville has a strong trio to build around with Sherburne.
Kaiden Gage Kaiden Gage 6'5" | PG East Buchanan | 2022 State IA , East Buchanan (2022)
The future remains bright for East Buchanan behind sophomore Kaiden Gage Kaiden Gage 6'5" | PG East Buchanan | 2022 State IA .
Gage posted 17.5 points per game, shooting almost 40 percent from the field and 30 percent from the 3-point line, adding five rebounds and three assists per game.
Analysis: More pressure will be on Gage next season after graduating takes several seniors from the roster. He showed the ability to lead by example and will be counted on to do that once more.
Josh Dix Josh Dix 6'5" | SG Council Bluffs Lincoln | 2022 State #149 Nation IA , Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln (2022)
Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln went 21-2 and reached the Class 4A substate final before falling to West Des Moines Dowling.
Sophomore Josh Dix Josh Dix 6'5" | SG Council Bluffs Lincoln | 2022 State #149 Nation IA led the team at 17.5 points per game, knocking down over 52 percent of his shots including almost 40 percent from the 3-point line.
Analysis: Playing against the big boys in 4A, Dix showed he was ready, adding five rebounds and almost two assists and two steals per game.
Karter Petzenhauser Karter Petzenhauser 6'4" | SG Spencer | 2022 State IA , Spencer (2022)
It was a learning experience on the hardwood for Spencer, but a critical one that showed the development of sophomore Karter Petzenhauser Karter Petzenhauser 6'4" | SG Spencer | 2022 State IA .
Petzenhauser posted 19 points per game thanks to shooting 46 percent from the floor and 32 percent from the 3-point line. He also chipped in five rebounds, 2.5 assists and a pair of steals a night.
Analysis: For Spencer to surge past the .500 marks next year, they will need even more out of Petzenhauser as those around him from this past winter graduate. The pressure will definitely be on him to rise up.
Cole Glasgow Cole Glasgow 6'2" | SG Dallas Center- Grimes | 2022 State IA , Dallas Center-Grimes (2022)
This past winter, Dallas Center-Grimes won 17 games before running into Norwalk in the postseason.
Sophomore Cole Glasgow Cole Glasgow 6'2" | SG Dallas Center- Grimes | 2022 State IA was the leading scorer, posting almost 16 points a night. He shot 52 percent from the field and nearly 40 percent from deep, adding in 4.4 rebounds and two assists.
Analysis: Paired with junior Luke Rankin Luke Rankin 5'10" | PG Dallas Center-Grimes | 2021 State IA , Dallas Center-Grimes will lean heavily once more on Glasgow next season.
