1. Tyrese Hunter Tyrese Hunter 5'11" | PG Racine St. Catherine's | 2021 State #63 Nation WI (Racine St. Catherine’s)
Expect Hunter to be very hungry going into his senior season as he likely feels robbed of a Division 3 state championship following a perfect 25-0 season cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The most explosive guard in the state from an athletic standpoint, Hunter averaged 21.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. The 5-foot-10 lead guard is extremely difficult to contain in the open floor or when he gets a lane to the rim. If his jumper becomes consistent, there’s probably nothing stopping him from taking that No. 2 spot in our class of 2021 rankings.
Hunter holds scholarship offers from Florida, Marquette, Creighton, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, Texas A&M, and Northwestern among others.
2. Seth Trimble Seth Trimble 6'3" | PG Menomonee Falls | 2022 State #50 Nation WI – Menomonee Falls
Have become a big fan of this kid after his sophomore season. In a lot of ways, Trimble just embodies want you want from your point guard. He’s always poised — never too high or too low. Trimble makes others around him better. He can dictate the tempo/flow of the game and get his teammates quality shots, but when it’s time to take over, can fill it up offensively.
UW-Milwaukee is the lone school to have offered Trimble thus far. Right now, I see him as a power-five, certainly a high major prospect when you factor in his above the rim leaping ability at 5-foot-11.
3. Kobe Johnson Kobe Johnson 6'5" | PG Nicolet | 2021 State #240 Nation WI – Nicolet
A kid that’s always had to prove himself. Even when he averages 19.6 points per game on a 22-3 Nicolet team, Johnson is still having to prove himself. That chip on his shoulder has carried Johnson far, however. As a freshman, he wasn’t a top 25 prospect in the 2021 class and all of a sudden exploited into the top 10.
Johnson holds offers from Indiana State, Western Illinois, UW-Milwaukee, and DePaul. At 6-foot-4, perhaps Johnson is better off in the combo guard category, but schools will definitely value his vision and feel for the game and want him to make decisions on the floor.
4. Ben Nau Ben Nau 6'1" | PG Brookfield Central | 2021 State WI – Brookfield Central
Another prospect you could define as a combo guard, Nau can serve as a sharpshooter off the ball. He also did a phenomenal job of tying a very talented team with a lot of different parts together last season. Having seen the Lancers in some fall league action, they were nowhere near the form they were in by mid-season.
As a junior, Nau averaged 12.5 points and 5.2 assists per game. Nau is also one of the state’s top defenders, always willing to sacrifice his body and take a charge. He has scholarship offers from Southern Illinois, UW-Green Bay, Miami (OH), UW-Milwaukee, and Indiana State.
5. Armani Jones Armani Jones 5'8" | PG Brown Deer | 2022 State WI – Brown Deer
Jones (5-9) is undersized, but there’s not many players who know how to score the basketball like him. As a sophomore, Jones put up 20.4 points per game for the Falcons. A terrific isolation and open floor guard, Jones has blow-by ability on the ball. With dead-eye long range shooting ability, Jones makes defenders pick their poison.
6. Christopher Morgan Christopher Morgan 6'1" | PG Kaukauna | 2022 State WI – Kaukauna
Will be interesting to see what type of season Morgan has now that Kaukauna will have to reload in 2020-21. Playing next to three seniors, all Divison 2 prospects, Morgan averaged 8.6 points per outing. A pass-first floor general with good size (6-2) is a skilled, high-IQ guard capable of scoring and facilitating at a high level.
7. Jack Campion Jack Campion 5'10" | PG Milton | 2022 State WI
If he grows, Campion is a guy that’s gonna shoot up this list. One of the most electrifying players in the state with arguably the best handles, Campion 20.1 points and 4.8 assists per game for Milton last season. The 5-foot-10 sophomore was deadly when the Redhawks spaced the floor with shooters and just let Campion work.
Campion’s speed on the ball proved elite, not just in Wisconsin, but nationally as he was a handful on the Under Armour Circuit. He’s also a strong 3-point shooter with terrific range that extends well beyond the arc.
8. JaKobe Thompson – Racine Case
Thompson averaged 19.0 points per game as a junior, leading Case to a 21-4 record and a Southeast Conference title. A smooth isolation scorer, Thompson can get to the rack and find different ways to finish. He’s a little on the small size, but has some added length and a knack for adjusting his shot in mid-air to avoid shot blockers.
9. Kamari Mcgee Kamari Mcgee 6'0" | PG Racine St. Catherine's | 2021 State WI
A guard that plays with a bulldog mentality, McGee loves to get downhill and use his strength around the rim. When McGee gets within a few feet of the basket, he’s not going around you, he’s going through you. McGee averaged 11.2 points and 4.0 assists per game on a loaded Angels squad.
10. Casey Verhagen Casey Verhagen 6'0" | PG Sheboygan Area Lutheran | 2022 State WI
You could very easily argue that Verhagen should be higher on this list. Perhaps the best facilitator in the state, Verhagen averaged 9.3 assists per game as a sophomore to go along with 19.7 points. A floor general who gets into high percentage areas, forces defenses to react and over-help, Verhagen can just pick teams apart with the basketball. He will be a 1,000-point scorer by the end of next season and already owns more than 500 career assists.
