With two years left to showcase their worth on the prep scene, these players have already perfected locking in and cradling a loose ball.
Here’s a look at the top rebounders in the Class of 2022:
Eddie Burgess Eddie Burgess 6'4" | PF Montezuma | 2022 State IA , Montezuma (2022)
Trey Shearer Trey Shearer 5'10" | PG Montezuma | 2021 State IA might grab most of the headlines from Montezuma, but he is far from a one-man band. His supporting class includes the leading rebounder among all sophomores in Eddie Burgess Eddie Burgess 6'4" | PF Montezuma | 2022 State IA .
Burgess, who stands 6-foot-4, helped the team reach the state semifinals this past year by averaging 11 points and nearly 11 rebounds a night. He totaled 293 boards, with 249 coming on the defensive glass.
Analysis: Montezuma should be on the short list for state title contenders behind returning players like Shearer and Burgess, who shot 65 percent from the floor and added 95 assists, 48 steals and 31 blocks.
Lucas Lorenzen Lucas Lorenzen 6'4" | SF Okoboji | 2022 State IA , Okoboji (2022)
All Lucas Lorenzen Lucas Lorenzen 6'4" | SF Okoboji | 2022 State IA did as a sophomore was post 22 points and 12 rebounds a night on average for Okoboji. Not bad, and with a year under his belt, he should have the confidence to grow even more.
Lorenzen shot almost 53 percent from the field, 44 percent from the 3-point line and 75 percent at the charity stripe. On the boards, he grabbed 288 rebounds, including 59 offensive with 30 assists and 27 steals.
Analysis: The 6-foot-4 Lorenzen is quickly positioning himself as one of the top members of the Class of 2022, and this coming winter should give him the chance to cement that standing.
Ben DeMeulenaere Ben DeMeulenaere 6'3" | PF Belle Plaine | 2022 State IA , Belle Plaine (2022)
After posting 13 points and 11 rebounds a game as a 10th-grader, Ben DeMeulenaere Ben DeMeulenaere 6'3" | PF Belle Plaine | 2022 State IA will form a strong tandem with senior-to-be Luke DeMeulenaere Luke DeMeulenaere 6'1" | PF Belle Plaine | 2021 State IA next winter.
Ben DeMeulenaere Ben DeMeulenaere 6'3" | PF Belle Plaine | 2022 State IA grabbed 255 total rebounds including 84 on the offensive glass last year. He shot 59 percent from the field and 66 percent at the free throw line, adding in a team-high 58 blocks.
Analysis: Belle Plaine will be looking to reach the state tournament behind the play of Ben and Luke DeMeulenaere Luke DeMeulenaere 6'1" | PF Belle Plaine | 2021 State IA . And they should give them a great shot.
Kaden Hall Kaden Hall 6'2" | PF English Valleys | 2022 State IA , English Valleys (2022)
A double-double machine as a sophomore, Kaden Hall Kaden Hall 6'2" | PF English Valleys | 2022 State IA posted 16 points and 11 rebounds a night this past winter.
Hall shot almost 46 percent from the field, knocked down 15 triples and attempted 110 free throws. He finished with 246 total rebounds including 74 on the offensive glass, adding in 43 assists, 58 steals and 34 blocks.
Analysis: This should be another breakout campaign for Hall, as the 6-foot-2 sophomore continues to shine on the stage.
Cooper Kock, Ar-We-Va (2022)
After just missing averaging a double-double this past year, Ar-We-Va’s Cooper Kock will be focusing in on reaching that level next season.
Kock averaged 10 rebounds a game, recording 219 total including 54 on the offensive glass. He posted seven points a night, adding in 33 steals and 13 blocks.
Analysis: With an uptick in his percentages after shooting 34 percent from the field, Kock should have no trouble reaching the double-digit mark in scoring, and you can bet his rebounding prowess will still be strong.
