Now it’s time we combine all of the classes to come up with master list of the regions prospects regardless of class. In this piece we take a look at the best point guards in SoCal across the 2021, 2022 and 2023 classes. Make sure to check out our previous story breaking down the top five.
6. Houston Mallette Houston Mallette 6'4" | PG Pacifica Christian | 2021 State #201 Nation CA-S , 2021, Pacifica Christian/OC: Mallette recently pulled the trigger on a commitment to Penn State and the Nittany Lion are getting a big time leader on the floor who also happens to be a talented scorer and distributor. Mallette is a consistent pull-up jumper shooter who can also get paint touches and find open shooters with accurate and timely passes.
Colony freshman Kylan Boswell is one of the most polished young floor generals in the region.7. Christian Watson Christian Watson 6'4" | PG Long Beach Poly | 2022 State CA-S , 2022, Long Beach Poly: Watson is a high upside prospect who really found his groove midway through his sophomore season. The wiry 6-foot-3 point guard is a crafty driver and finisher around the basket who showed improved feel for the position as the season went on. Watson did a nice job understanding what his team needed from him throughout the course of a game.
8. Devon Arlington Devon Arlington 6'3" | PG San Marcos | 2022 State CA-S , 2022, San Marcos: One of the toughest floor generals around showed how physicality and confidence can help a player take his game, and team, to another level. Arlington was the best player on the floor for San Marcos, but he trusted in his teammates to make the right plays night-in and night-out. Arlington makes the correct play more often than not and plays with great energy on both ends.
9. Kylan Boswell, 2023, Colony: Boswell earned himself some hype in the late summer and fall camp circuit and carried that momentum into the high school season. There are few prep guards in the region who possess a higher basketball IQ or carry themselves as poised as Boswell. The 6-foot-1 freshman is a knockdown three-point shooter who put up solid averages of 14.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game.
10. Bronny James 2023, Sierra Canyon: The freshman showed a lot of promise while playing plenty of minutes off the bench for the state’s best team. The bloodlines are undeniable, but that aside, James possesses a high basketball IQ and natural feel for the game at the point guard spot. The most impressive part of his game was how he handled all the pressure of sold out gymnasiums across the country. James rarely forced the issue offensively, made advanced reads and understood how to get the ball to his playmakers.
