Brandon Porter (Roosevelt, Guard) The tough two sport guard is one of the toughest players left on the board. Porter, who also plays football, is 5’9″ but one of the fastest and strongest guards in all of SoCal. He possesses strength and speed and can absorb contact with the best of them. He has the ability to get into the lane and finish at the rim or create with a dish to an open teammate. On defense, Porter isn’t afraid of a challenge. He does an amazing job staying in front of his man, plays the passing lanes, and isn’t scared to take charges. In the region semifinals, Porter led Roosevelt to an upset over King Drew with 20 points and the game winning stop on defense. Porter finished with First Team All Big VIII honors.
Laird Anderson (Mark Keppel, Guard) The lefty lead guard out of Alhambra has great size for the point guard position standing in at 6’1″. Anderson is a floor general who has a high IQ and makes the most of every posession. He has the ability to take his man off the dribble and to create for teammates. Anderson also has a steady jumper which has range to the 3 point line but he is also very effective with the stop and pop and pull up mid range jumpers. Anderson is finished his career as one of the most decorated players from Mark Keppel high school with over 1900 career points, named 3x Almont League MVP, and All-CIFSS Division 3AA honors.
Brase Dottin (Harvard Westlake, Wing) One of the best wings available, Dottin elevated his game this year for the Wolverines. When Johnny Juzang announced his departure to Kentucky, someone had to step up and Dottin did exactly that. While he started as more of a defensive and rebounding wing early in his career, Dottin blossomed into a complete player who played both sides of the ball. Brase has good size standing in at 6’6″. He has developed into a very good shooter who is a constant threat from 3. His shooting compliments his athleticism and physicality that he plays with as he is a threat to slash to the hole and finish at the rim. In the playoffs, Dottin heated up with a 18 pt performance against Sierra Canyon in which he hit 5 three pointers, a 6 pointer game against Rancho Christian, and a 22 point effort in a upset win over a high seeded Corona Centennial in CIF State. Dottin finished the year with All-Mission League 1st Team honors
Troy Murphy Jr. (Rolling Hills, Wing) The 6’5″ wing out of Rolling Hills Prep is full of potential. Murphy is a good athlete who also possesses a high IQ. He plays with a high motor and always makes the right play. Unlike some players who rely on physical attributes and go out of control, Troy combines his basketball acumen with his court vision and unselfishness which allows him to find open teammates in transition. Murphy has good fundamentals and has the potential to be a consistent shooter. Murphy can contribute at many different schools at the next level and could end up being a steal.
Malvin Payero (Valley Christian, Guard) The 6’1″ guard from the Dominican Republic is an absolute blur in transition. Payero plays every play like if its his last, going 100% with aggression and tenacity. In the open court, he does a great job of blowing by defenders and attacking the rim and finishing with either a dunk or an acrobatic score. Payero mixes up his defenders by also utilizing the triple threat and exhibiting his three point range. Payero’s combination of skill and physical attributes give him a very high ceiling and he has potential to be an immediate contributor at the next level.
