As the 6-foot-10 junior has finished up the school year remotely, he’s been using his spare time effectively. Erikstrup has been working out hard for whenever competitive hoops does get started up again and in the process he’s also seen his college recruitment take an upturn as coaches have started to be in constant contact with him.
“This off season has actually been a blessing in disguise for me,” Erikstrup said. “My dad bought a pretty nice in home gym with a cage and weights for everything you need from bench press to squatting to deadlifts so I’ve been lifting 6/7 days a week. And also my neighbors are letting us use their outdoor sport court that’s pretty nice so I have been working out there normally 4-5 times a week based on the weather.”
Erikstrup noted that he’s been focusing most on improving his athleticism and conditioning as his goal is to become more of a true four for the college level. Going into his junior year, he had a little contact with coaches but with a full year of production behind him, the First Team All-Metro League standout has Division I college coaches calling him on a consistent basis. He notes that many have been in touch almost every other day and they’ve all noted how they like the way he finishes on the inside yet is able to step out, shoot the ball, and make plays for others.
As he awaits his first offer, Erikstrup is keeping an open mind while honing in on what he’s looking for at the next level both on and off the basketball floor. “The coaching staff and players will be very important as will the opportunities the school offers academically,” Erikstrup said. “Everything else I’m pretty open to different play styles and what not. I’m hoping to make some college visits once the recruiting dead period ends.”
Erikstrup also gave us a update on his status with the Danish National Team. It was announced in early April that both the Nordic championship and European championships were cancelled, but later in the month he received a update that the Nordic countries were hoping to still proceed with the Nordic championships in August. The final decision won’t be made for awhile, but if he is given the opportunity and travel restrictions permit, Erikstrup is hoping to play for and represent Denmark in Helsinki, Finland this year.
Erikstrup currently ranks as the #9 player in the recently updated Class of 2021 rankings.
