The versatile 6-foot-8, 190-pound forward from Clackamas has been fielding phone calls, answering texts, and participating in Zoom meetings with college coaches, building relationships and getting a feel for major conference programs – including getting two new scholarship offers this past month.
There’s no doubt that Gregg would love to be making college campus visits right now. But the Zoom meeting experience has been what he’s been able to do, and he’s enjoyed the expierience. “They’ve been really cool,” Gregg said. “They start by talking about their program and it’s nice because their whole coaching staff is on the call so you get to hear from everybody. They show us a presentation of their campus, program history, and where they see me fitting in their system.”
It’s through this medium that Gregg received his most recent scholarship offer, one from Arizona. “I’ve been talking to their assistant coach everyday and we’re building a strong relationship,” Gregg said. “I like their program because they develop their guys and make them pros.”
The offer Gregg received right before that was from Virginia Tech – which differs from the rest of his offers as it’s his first east of the Mississippi. “We’ve talked everyday as well,” Gregg said. “They are on the East Coast but that’s not really a problem for my family and I. I like the fact that they play in the best conference in America and get to play against the Dukes and North Carolinas.”
Gregg notes that he remains in contact with many of the other schools that have offered scholarships including Oregon, Oregon State, Cal, and USC and some other schools that haven’t offered yet have been in touch often such as Indiana, St. Mary’s, and Virginia. He notes that he doesn’t really have any favorites at this point and isn’t even sure if he’ll sign early. “I’m still trying to figure all that out,” Gregg said.
Instead he’s just enjoying the process at this point and with possibility of things opening up, he’s ready to start playing again whenever that comes and is planning on joining the Oakland Soldiers on the EYBL. “I’ve been hooping and lifting everyday,” Gregg said. “I’ve been playing more physical and trying to dunk everything. I’m also shooting off the dribble and getting it out of my hands quick.”
Gregg currently ranks as the #2 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2021 rankings.
