Longstreet’s versatility was shown heavily with Delano this winter leading the team to a 25-4 record playing the point guard role for a big team. Trey has offers/interest from high major football teams but his main interest is basketball. Unfortunately he hasn’t been able to compete at the 17u level as of yet because of the pandemic. That said Trey is keeping himself very busy.
“The hardest part for me during these times is actually finding time to get out and shoot,” Trey said. “I have a really nice weight room with a vertimax and a treadmill. I have put on like ten pounds and I have been putting lots of time in the weight room. I am also able to say in shape by doing some running things on the treadmill and jump and acceleration stuff on the vertimax.
“Basketball wise whenever I can get a nice day I go down to the park with my younger brother and we do shooting, ball handling, and individual moves together. There are some days when it’s crappy out when I can’t do anything so I’ll go out in my garage and do some ball handling.”
When teams can start meeting/practicing again Trey will be with the Minnesota Heat. That and resume his regular workouts.
“I’ll play with the Heat again. And I’m just going to get n the gym as much as possible and just play. Hopefully I can go in sooner rather then later. I don’t have an exact plan but I’ll shoot and do drills for an hour and half and work out for 45 minutes probably. That’s usually my go to during the summer.”
Trey made headlines when he earned a football offer from Iowa State but he’s already hearing from a long list of schools on the basketball side as well.
“I’ve been hearing from University of St. Thomas, North Dakota, Valpo, Bemidji State, Southwest Minnesota State, Northern State, Princeton, South Dakota State, New Hampshire, Lehigh, and Loyola,” Longstreet stated. “I went up to North Dakota once for a vist and I have a few that I’m planning to go to. Like I just scheduled one with Northern State.
“I had a zoom call with Bemidji State and I have one planned some time this week or next week with Valpo.”
What is Trey looking for in a college program?
“The two biggest things I’m looking for in a college are the academics part of it and it has to be the perfect fit. I need to be able to connect with the coaches and players. Also I want a campus that I enjoy being on.”
When it comes to Longstreet a school will be getting a versatile talent that may be able to say he played all five spots (and defended all five spots) in high school over four years. This past season Delano’s starters ranged between 6-foot-5 and 6-foot-7, with Trey the lead guard at 6-foot-7.
“This year I was our point guard and one of my main roles was getting everyone involved and I think that will stay the same but since we do lose some of our big scores I think my scoring role is going to increase,” Longstreet said.
“I still think I’ll play point and still be our number one defender but my scoring will need to increase for us to be successful. Also my rebounding, we are losing Max Otto Max Otto 6'5" | PF Delano | 2020 State MN who averaged about 15 boards per game. So my goal is to grab around 8-10 rebounds per game compared to my four this past year.”
Trey averaged 14.5 points and 7.6 assists a game for a top ten team in Class AAA basketball.
