Here, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at several prospects coming off a strong junior season who are poised to crack the rankings in the future.
Hunter Davis, 5’8, G, 2021, Lakin (2nd team
A 3A second team All-State performer who does a bit of everything on the floor. Davis is a terrific leader in multiple sports and he brings quickness, skills and control to the lead guard position. He’s a strong shooter inside and out and led his team in scoring with 20 points per game while shooting 48 percent from field and 36 percent from three-point range. He also led his team in steals (2.8 per game) and assists (5.5 per game) and was also one of the top rebounders as well averaging 4.2.
Maddox Decker, 5’9, PG, 2021, Santa Fe Trail
An all-around playmaker and 3A All-State honorable mention who can zip through coverage and weave hisway to the basket. Decker has control of the show and he looks to score, facilitate and set a tone on the defensive side of the ball. Decker can score inside, around the midrange area and get to the basket and finish off the glass. He sees the floor well and has the experience and understanding of his position to make an impact night after night
Luke Detwiler, 5’11, G, 2021, Lyndon
Detwiler is a strong guard who can handle the ball, score from range and also looks to move inside and play physical. He is a strong athlete at 5’11 with good eyes and a nose for the ball. He is also a strong on-ball defender who jumps out and looks to force transition plays for easy buckets on the opposite side. Detwiler was a 2A All-State honorable mention for his play. An all-around leader, scorer and impact player.
Brady Frickey, 5’10, G, 2021, Ellis (3rd team)
A 2A third team All-State performer last season who led by example and looked to push the tempo. Frickey is a strong scorer. Frickey led his team in scoring with 17.2 points per game while shooting 48 percent from field and 40 percent from three-point range. He’s a season guard who looks to make an impact wherever he can and is often getting up the floor and making plays or securing defensive boards and looking to score in transition. He also averaged 1.7 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game.
Connor Gibson, 5’11, 150, PG, 2021, Pleasant Ridge
An intelligent point guard who can connect from three-point range in forced turnovers. He is quick to shoot after the catch and loves the wing spot on the left side of the floor. He can score from several feet beyond the three-point arc but is also good at moving inside and getting buckets around the mid-range area and glass. Gibson is also a solid defender who can switch off on opponents, can test shots and even force turnovers. A 3A All-State honorable mention for his work throughout his junior season.
Caleb Gilliland, 6’0, PG, 2021, Sacred Heart
A nice scoring option for Sacred Heart who is expected to take on a larger role this upcoming season. Gilliland was a reliable option throughout the season who looked to score, rebound and make plays as a defender. He is a good passer as well and looked to keep his teammates the ball and set them up for buckets. The 2A All-State honorable mention averaged 12 points per game while shooting 43 percent from the field. He also had three assists, 3.3 rebounds and an impressive 2.3 steals per game.
Chase Harrison, 6’0, G, 2021, Madison (third team)
An impressive player for Madison who can core, facilitate and play strong perimeter defense. Harrison is a reliable option who understands his role and doesn’t back down from big moments. He can connect from 3-point range and has the calm, steady demeanor needed to make plays when the game is on the line. A player you want to have the ball as the clock is winding down. Harrison was a 1A third team All-State performer.
