These rankings include all classes between 2021, 2022 and 2023 and are based on how good we think the prospects will be at the next level. This is one of the hardest things to do because it encompasses all classes, but should be great for debates throughout the cities.
With no further ado, here’s a look at prospect numbers 25-16 in the 434 area code.
25) Zymir Faulkner Zymir Faulkner 6'2" | CG Charlottesville | 2021 State VA | 6’1” PG | Charlottesville 2021
Faulkner was one of the breakout guys in the Charlottesville area this year and if you’re a scholarship coach looking for a possible steal next year he’s worth taking a look at. A strong and athletic guard that plays with a good motor, Faulkner does what it takes to win on both ends and is a natural leader as well. He can score from multiple levels, play on or off the basketball and impacts the game in a number of ways.
24) Robbie Matos | 5’9” PG | Virginia Episcopal 2023
Matos is one of the top point guards in the 2023 class in VA and is a guy who will likely move up this list with continued growth. A lightning quick guard who pushes the tempo and guards the length of the floor, Matos has great savvy and playmaking ability and some toughness to go along with it as well. He lives in the paint, can score it among the trees and is a game changer in many ways.
23) Josh Sime | 6’6” PF | Western Albemarle 2023
Western always seems to have a lot of bigs with potential, and Some may be the best one yet to come through the school. The 6’6” forward is very strong for his age, he owns the paint with his rebounding and shot blocking ability and he has a budding skill set offensively that includes the ability to stretch the floor and score with both hands around the basket.
22) Jaylen Leftwich Jaylen Leftwich 6'3" | CG Liberty Christian | 2021 State VA | 6’3” CG | Liberty Christian 2021
Leftwich is a gem in the Lynchburg area who was an All State selection and a big reason that LCA made a state tournament run this year. At 6’3” he’s a strong guard with good athleticism, he can handle pressure and create for others and he’s able to score it off the bounce from multiple levels. He’s a guy who has continually gotten better over the past few years and should be a steal for a program that takes the time to recruit him.
21) Piercen Young Piercen Young 6'4" | SG Virginia Episcopal | 2022 State VA | 6’3” WG | Virginia Episcopal 2022
Young is one of those guys that maybe doesn’t check all of the boxes, but he’s highly skilled and makes winning plays on both ends of the ball. He has a great IQ which allows him to play both on and off the basketball, he can shoot it from deep in either situation and he competes on both ends of the floor and in every facet of the game. He comes from a great basketball family and is always one of the most impactful guys when he’s on the floor.
20) Jonas Sanker Jonas Sanker 6'2" | CG Covenant | 2021 State VA | 6’2” G | Covenant 2021
Sanker had an incredible junior season leading Covenant to the VISAA Final Four and he’s being recruited by scholarship programs for both basketball and football. A strong guard that’s a naturally dynamic athlete and finisher, he’s able to get out in transition and get downhill where he can score it through traffic at the rim. He had to do so much for his team and played almost every minute in close games, showing great stamina and toughness in the process.
19) Jayson Fain Jayson Fain 6'5" | PF Carlisle | 2021 State VA | 6’5” F | Carlisle 2021
Fain is an under the radar wing who is starting to get the recognition he deserves after being named Second Team All VISAA this year. He’s a long and athletic forward that thrives in transition and can create off the bounce, he’s a good shooter from deep when set and he’s able to guard and play multiple positions as well. He’s a gritty guy who can do a lot of things to help his team win games.
18) Walker Andrews Walker Andrews 6'1" | CG Virginia Episcopal | 2022 State VA | 5’11” G | Virginia Episcopal 2022
Andrews had a breakout season at VES after reclassifying to 2022 and moving from James River and the sniper of a guard really filled it up throughout the year. He isn’t the biggest guy but he’s a good athlete who can get up above the rim, he moves well without the ball and he has a quick release and deep range off the catch. He’s an underrated playmaker defensively too who has good feel and can shoot passing lanes for steals.
17) Kobe Jerome Kobe Jerome 6'3" | CG Blue Ridge | 2021 State VA | 6’3” G | Blue Ridge 2021
Jerome was the ultimate glue guy and was a big reason that Blue Ridge was able to win their second straight VISAA D2 State Championship. He has a lot of the same qualities his brother Ty has, as he’s a very cerebral combo guard with good size that makes exceptional decisions and can thread the needle with either hand. He can play on or off the basketball, he’s a great help side defender and when you leave him alone he can knock it down from deep as well.
16) Tyshun “TK” Bryant | 6’3” G | Miller School 2021
Bryant had a rough year in his first year at Miller School as he dealt with some lingering injuries that kept him out for much of the year, but when he was healthy he was a game changer for his team. A tough NYC kid who brings grit on both ends of the floor, he’s a natural leader and a student of the game who knows it very well and plays it the right way. He sets the tone on both ends, he’s a great slasher and playmaker and will do whatever it takes to help his team win.
