So for me, there’s no better way to evaluate players than watching them perform under the pressure of the playoffs. In this article, a follow up to Late Season Stockrisers, PH takes a look at some players whose production improved the deeper they got into the season.
Cameron Swain 6’3 SG Douglas 2021 – Swain actually played strong most of the year, highlighted by a 26 point performance against Grants Pass. It was the end of the season, however, where Swain really stepped on the gas. He raised his average to over 14 points per including 5 straight double-figure games.
Naurese Meno Blackshear 6’2 SG Somerset Losee 2021 – NMB came on late in the year. His 6ppg was good enough for him to end up as the 4th leading scorer on a talented Losee team. Toward the end of the season, he really raised his game, averaging nearly 10ppg over a 5 game late-season stretch.
Stosia Taylor 6’1 SG Valley 2021 – Taylor had some big games early in the year including 22 in a victory over Mojave. During the end of the season, he proved to be a consistent scorer reaching double figures in 5 of his last 7 games.
Logan Gavenda 6’3 SG Pahrump Valley 2021 – Gavenda was the second-leading scorer for PV so a scoring explosion isn’t uncommon from him. He was a monster in his last 5 games averaging 15 and 8.
Cameron Reese 6’5 SG Moapa Valley 2021 – You have to hand it to Reese. He’s definitely the 2nd option for the Pirates, behind scoring machine Lucas Walker Lucas Walker 5'11" | 155 lbs | PG Moapa Valley | 2021 State NV . That does not mean that he can’t get buckets though. He was a flamethrower toward the end of the season highlighted by a 26 and 12 performance against SLAM Academy, a game in which he buried 6 3’s.
Isaiah Dahl 6’3 SG Elko 2022 – Dahl was a key contributor for the 3A runner up all year. But it is hard to overlook his late-season performance. Over a 10 game stretch towards the end of the year, Dahl scored 162 points and hit 19 3’s.
