Below you will find, listed in alphabetical order by last name, 10 of the top rebounders from PG County. This is part of a series that will aim to highlight players based on various superlatives.
Note: these superlative lists will not be mutually exclusive. If someone can handle the ball and do something else (i.e. shoot) at a high level, they will be included in both lists.
Favour Aire Favour Aire 6'10" | C Bishop McNamara | 2022 State #86 Nation MD | Bishop McNamara ’21
Aire is a complete big man who can do a bit of everything, include rebound both in and out of his area. He has ridiculous length, hands like vice-grips and gets off the ground quickly when tracking the ball off the backboard.
Terrence Butler Terrence Butler 6'7" | PF Bishop McNamara | 2021 State MD | Bishop McNamara ’21
Butler’s motor and strength are two reasons why he’s a plus rebounder. He works extremely hard to box out and position himself properly to collect the ball when it comes off the boards.
Solomon Eric Solomon Eric 6'8" | C Eleanor Roosevelt | 2021 State MD | Eleanor Roosevelt ’21
A strong inside presence with length, Eric is a big-bodied post prospect who makes an impact with his ability to clean the glass. He moves bodies in the paint and has made it a habit to high-point the ball so smaller players rarely have an opportunity to even sniff the ball.
Jonathan Izemef Jonathan Izemef 6'9" | C National Christian | 2021 State MD | National Christian ’21
Owning a 7’0 wingspan, Izemef’s length is unmatched by most of his opponents at this level, and this gives him a distinct advantage when pursuing a 50/50 ball out of his area. That in conjunction with his high work rate makes him productive on the boards.
Jorclay Kaniki Jorclay Kaniki 6'8" | C New Hope | 2021 State MD | New Hope ’21
Kanicki has the physical tools, long arms, and broad shoulders, that indicate he could become a dominant inside presence for years to come. We’ve seen signs of this already when you consider his non-stop motor and rebounding proficiency.
Aaron Lewis Aaron Lewis 6'6" | PF Lanham Christian | 2021 MD | Lanham Christian ’21
Lewis is a tremendous out-of-area rebounder and a high-yielding rebounder in general who averaged close to 10 per game last season. Listed at 6-foot-7 with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, he is a plus athlete who exhibits the ideal instincts to become an elite rebounder.
Kenny McKoy Kenny McKoy 6'5" | C Wise | 2021 MD | Wise ’21
An undersized big who works hard and brings toughness to the frontcourt, McKoy can get 10 rebounds in any game he plays. We’ve seen glimpses of this throughout his days at Ryken, and he should be in a good position to put up consistently massive numbers next year at Wise.
Abdou Samb Abdou Samb 6'8" | C Frederick Douglass | 2021 State MD | Frederick Douglass ’21
Samb is a 6-foot-8 center who is still growing into his body but is already one of the best rebounders in the area. This is because of his considerable length and unrelenting effort while going after boards.
Mike Woods Mike Woods 6'4" | SF Frederick Douglass | 2021 State MD | Frederick Douglass ’21
Woods is a swiss-army knife, capable of bringing many attributes to the frontcourt, with rebounding being one of his very best traits. He is relentless on the glass, and must be accounted for on every possession or he will make opponents pay.
Tieron Vick Tieron Vick 6'5" | PF Fairmont Heights | 2023 State MD | Fairmont Heights ’23
A sturdily-built forward who is a good athlete, Vick is a strong area rebounder. He understands the nuances of rebounding and is seemingly always in the right position to secure possession.
