Below you will find, listed in alphabetical order by last name, 10 of the best hustlers from PG County. This is part of a series that will aim to highlight players based on various superlatives.
Note: these superlative lists will not be mutually exclusive. If someone can handle the ball and do something else (i.e. shoot) at a high level, they will be included in both lists.
Elisha Brown Elisha Brown 6'5" | SF Lanham Christiany | 2022 State MD | Lanham Christian ’21
One good word to describe Brown would be “workhorse”. He loves to make the little hustle plays, such as running the floor or crashing the offensive glass, that help win games.
Terrence Butler Terrence Butler 6'7" | PF Bishop McNamara | 2021 State MD | Bishop McNamara ’21
Butler is known for having a strong work ethic, and it shows each time he hits the floor. Whether he’s looking to establish inside position, going for a 50/50 ball, or sprinting down the floor, his motor is always running at a high clip.
Daemond Ford Daemond Ford 6'2" | CG Wise | 2021 State MD | Wise ’21
The quintessential team player, Ford has established a reputation as a diligent worker. When you watch him play, you’ll notice that everything he does on the floor is with the intent to make the team better.
James Gross Jr. James Gross Jr. 6'3" | CG Rock Creek Christian | 2021 State MD | Rock Creek Christian ’21
Listed at 6-foot-3, Gross often finds himself playing the 4 against bigger and stronger opponents. This is rarely ever an issue because more often than not than makes up for his size disadvantage because of his incredibly high work rate.
Jonathan Izemef Jonathan Izemef 6'9" | C National Christian | 2021 State MD | National Christian ’21
One of Izemef’s biggest selling points right now has to be his motor. You won’t find many bigs at 6-foot-9 who spring up and down the floor consistently as he does. Izemef’s motor is also evident when he is pursuing a ball off the glass or protecting the rim.
Jorclay Kaniki Jorclay Kaniki 6'8" | C New Hope | 2021 State MD | New Hope ’21
Kaniki is a strong paint presence who impacts the game with his ability to outwork others. He’s tireless and leaves everything out on the court each time he hits the floor.
Kenny McKoy Kenny McKoy 6'5" | C Wise | 2021 MD | Wise ’21
At 6-foot-5, McKoy may be an undersized big, but he’s known for playing with high energy. He’s a terrific offensive rebounder and a sneaky good rim protector who is not afraid to match up with bigger opponents in the paint.
Jakai Robinson Jakai Robinson 6'4" | SF Rock Creek Christian | 2021 State #53 Nation MD | National Christian ’21
Robinson has been one of the most productive players in the DMV over the last three seasons, and his hustle is a huge reason why. If he scores 20 in a game, about half of those come via putbacks and pure energy plays.
Abdou Samb Abdou Samb 6'8" | C Frederick Douglass | 2021 State MD | Frederick Douglass ’21
Samb is usually the first one down the floor in transition, and at 6-foot-8, you don’t often see players his size emphasizing this. His energy translates on the defensive end as well, where he is often looking to block every challenger at the rim and secure every rebound in or out of his area.
Mike Woods Mike Woods 6'4" | SF Frederick Douglass | 2021 State MD | Frederick Douglass ’21
Relentless would be a great word to describe Woods. He pursues 50/50’s like a madman and seemingly has unlimited energy reserves.
