Top Five Prospects
Kalen Garry of De Smet (6’2). Kalen was the best guard in Class B basketball this season leading his team to a 19-2 record while averaging 21 points, 6.5 rebounds, and a pair of steals a game. Garry combines a strong guard frame with explosive bounce and an improved shooting stroke that approached 40 percent at the arc. Kalen scored on 52 percent of his attempts despite dealing the attention of the other team’s top defender followed by extra attention from the help defenders. The best part of Garry is that he forces few shot attempts and is willing to do whatever his team needs to succeed.
Cael Lundin of Tea Area (6’2). Cael put up 16 points per game knocking out three triples a contest. Lundin was able to attack left and make his beautiful jumper and then attack the opposite direction and knock out shots with the same clean release. Around the basket he can use either hand to complete but what people want to see when the watch Lundin play is that jumper. It’s like beautiful art seeing him shoot the ball.
Marcus Phillips of Sioux Falls Roosevelt (6’3). Philllips is a young, stronger 6-foot-3 sophomore but what caught my attention was the veteran consistency he seemed to compete with. When open shots were available Marcus got his hands ready and hit multiple times over closing defenders. Phillips is one of many Roosevelt players that set great screens and defensively his positioning was steady.
Keshaume Thigh of Chamberlain (6’2). Thigh’s relocation into scoring position is outstanding. Keshaume’s tight curls moving defenders into screens as well as his movement away from the defense getting hands up and feet set is that of a player three years older. Excellent rebounder for his position and a defensive playmaker in terms of jumping passing lanes and closing to contest/swat shots.
Andrew Walter of Harrisburg (6’3). We listed Walter as a two guard because of his size but this is really a player that can playmake from either spot. He’s a dynamite passer with enhanced vision able to lead players to baskets that most other guards can’t even see (in terms of passing angles). He’s also got a quick first step that covers a lot of ground with that first dribble. Loves beating players right to left with the dribble attack plus he’s a quality three point shooter as well.
