Below you will find, in alphabetical order by last name, 10 of the top interior scorers you will find in the region. This is part of a series that will aim to highlight players based on various superlatives.
Note: these superlative lists will not be mutually exclusive. If someone can handle the ball and do something else (i.e. shoot) at a high level, they will be included in both lists.
Gibraltar Coleman Gibraltar Coleman 6'6" | PF Flint Hill | 2023 State VA | West Springfield ’22
Coleman was the go-to-guy for a young but energetic Spartans team. He’s got a sturdily built frame which he knows how to use, both to establish low post position and to screen for his teammates. Coleman is an adept back-to-basket scorer who is not afraid of contact and showcases incredible touch.
Oluwasegun Durosinmi Oluwasegun Durosinmi 6'9" | C Virginia Academy | 2021 State VA | Virginia Academy ’21
Duro is a physically imposing post prospect, listed at 6-foot-8 with long arms and broad shoulders. If you let him get comfortable on the block, he will feast in the paint by utilizing his go-to drop step move which he’s come close to perfecting.
Avery Ford Avery Ford 6'7" | PF Centreville | 2021 State VA | Centreville ’21
While Ford is known for his defensive prowess, he can do some things on the offensive end as well. Owning some of the best hands you’ll find in high school hoops, he knows how to make himself available for dump-offs and is a very good finisher through contact.
Ariel Goddot | Bishop Ireton ’21
Goddot may be undersized, listed at 6-foot-5 and 180 pounds, he often finds himself matched up against a much bigger opponent in WCAC play. Despite this, he is still highly efficient and productive as a result of his quickness and expanding face-up skills. Goddot is a proficient straight-line driver and a crafty finisher with either hand who seeks contact in the lane.
Haze Green | Fairfax Christian ’21
Green is a crafty forward who demonstrates solid footwork in the low-post but can also face up and attack off the bounce. He is best when given a straight line to the rim and embraces contact when finishing in traffic.
Tyrell Harris Tyrell Harris 6'6" | PF Potomac | 2021 State VA | Potomac ’21
Harris is a multi-faceted forward who does many things on the court well, including scoring with his back to the basket. An ambidextrous finisher who can consistently hit difficult shots, he knows how to sell contact and finish through it.
David Onanina David Onanina 6'6" | PF Bishop O'Connell | 2022 State VA | Bishop O’Connell ’22
Onanina attracts a ton of attention whenever he’s stationed on the block. He’s a great screener who must be tagged when he rolls or he will punish opposing defenses. Onanina also gets a lot of easy buckets by simply running the floor and putting himself in good positions to score.
Trenton Picott | South County ’21
Picott is a long-limbed, mobile, and athletic forward who is an exceptional inside finisher. His length gives him above-average touch around the basket and he’s got great hands as well.
David Solomon III David Solomon III 6'6" | C VA Academy | 2023 State VA | Lake Braddock ’22
Solomon is an elite athlete who is one of the most explosive finishers on this list. He’s one of the best lob and putback threats in the area, but his post scoring has also improved quite a bit since his freshman year.
John Sondheim | Yorktown ’21
Sondheim is a bruising big man who is great at carving out space in the low post. He’s an efficient scorer around the basket who exhibits good hands and impressive touch.
