Below you will find, in alphabetical order by last name, 10 of the top energy guys you will find in the region. This is part of a series that will aim to highlight players based on various superlatives.
Note: these superlative lists will not be mutually exclusive. If someone can handle the ball and do something else (i.e. shoot) at a high level, they will be included in both lists.
Junior Bonsu | Battlefield ’21
Bonsu brought consistent energy and activity off the bench for the Bobcats. He helped control the glass and gave commendable effort defensively.
Kenneth Clark | Forest Park ’21
Clark’s motor is evident on both ends of the court. The crafty downhill-type guard competes defensively and is a threat to go coast-to-coast with his grab-and-go tendencies.
Jack Dolan | Flint Hill ’21
Dolan’s calling card is his ability to keep plays alive with his unrelenting effort, and this evident when you watch him rebound. He is absolutely relentless in his pursuit of any 50/50 ball whether in or out of his area.
Connor Dubsky | Bishop O’Connell ’22
Dubsky carved out a nice role in O’Connell’s rotation, in part because of his high motor. He’s good for about 5 rebounds per game from the wing position along with some defensive stats as well.
Ariel Goddot | Bishop Ireton ’21
For what he lacks in size, Goddot makes up for with his energy. His work rate is extremely high on both ends of the floor, and this is even more impressive when you consider Ireton’s uptempo style of play.
DeShawn Harris-Smith | Paul VI ’23
Harris-Smith made an immediate impact during his freshman year, with one of his biggest selling points being his motor. He’s a big guard who makes his presence felt on the glass, is active on defense, and fills the lanes quickly in transition.
DJ Johnson | Patriot ’22
Johnson is a forceful paint presence who is known for his combination of energy and strength. He’s a relentless rebounder who can finish through contact with relative ease.
David King | Hayfield ’23
Despite being relatively undersized at about 6’0 tall, King held his own against much bigger opponents because of his non-stop effort. It’s rare to see anyone outwork him on the court, and this is a particularly impressive trait for a freshman to possess.
Jiaan Sehhat | Langley ’21
Sehhat plays with a ton of emotion and helps enhance his output. He evidently prides himself on outworking everyone else on the floor, showing little regard for his body, and making whatever play is required to help his team win games.
Mike Teal | TC Williams ’21
Teal was an important spark-plug off the Titans bench. He’s an energetic guard who plays good team defense, has a quick first step, and thrives off his ability to attack the rim.
