These rankings take into account among other things, players’ production from the 2019-20 season, as well as any camps, tournaments, or events taking place before the cancelation of the grassroots Spring season. In this article, PH takes a look at the top Power forwards making an appearance in the c/o 2021 rankings.
Anthony Swift Anthony Swift 6'6" | SF Desert Pines | 2021 #189 Nation CA-S 6’6 Desert Pines (#5) – He has the size and the athleticism but what puts Swift at the top of the list is his motor. He plays relentlessly from end to end on both sides of the ball. Perhaps the best rim runner in the state, Swift competes for everything. He is a high level out of area rebounder, as well as a great finisher in transition.
Jan Madi Ngock Jan Madi Ngock 6'6" | PF Trinity | 2021 State NV 6’6 Trinity (#7) – There is a lot of mystery surrounding the meteoric rise of JMN. Reality is, a player of this size, with this type of athleticism is going to garner attention. JMN can step out and knock down open jumpers, but like Swift his motor is his best skill.Â
Fernando Carmona Fernando Carmona 6'5" | C Las Vegas | 2021 State NV 6’5 Las Vegas (#27) – Carmona is another player that plays with a relentless motor. He is a good out of area rebounder, and a solid post defender. He is perhaps the strongest player in the class. Although a football player, Carmona has the fluidity, agility and skill of a basketball player. Carmona can shoot it from 18 and has soft hands and a nice touch around the rim.
Tyson Guild Tyson Guild 6'5" | PF Durango | 2021 NV 6’5 Durango (#41) – Guild has the quickest 2nd jump of any big man in the class. He like several other power forwards on the list is a two-sport athlete. He provides rebounding and rim protection at a high level.
Mason Mich’l Mason Mich’l 6'7" | PF Desert Oasis | 2021 State NV 6’7 Desert Oasis (#42) – Mich’l is much more than a big body. He is more of a finesse European style of player that prefers to shoot from outside. He is a willing defender and can rebound within his own area. He will need to add some more muscle and strength to be considered a true power forward, however, a player with this type of size at #42 highlights the overall depth of the class.
Jacob Howard Jacob Howard 6'5" | C Durango | 2021 NV 6’5 Durango (#44) – Howard pairs with Guild to provide Durango with size and depth in the frontcourt. He is a high IQ player that will bang with both 4’s and 5’s.
Victavion Conway – Fox Victavion Conway – Fox 6'6" | C Cheyenne | 2021 State NV 6’6 Cheyenne (#45) (featured image) – VCF has a raw offensive game, however, he is a good in area rebounder, a willing defender and rim protector. Despite not being an elite run and jump athlete, he does a good job of using position, leverage, and timing to compete for rebounds.
