Here’s a look at the 2021s in the rankings:
16 Zach Bloch, guard, Seabury:
The 6-foot-1 combo guard can pass, create and score. He’s surrounded by talent, so his chance to show off on his high school team is limited. But Bloch was named Wichita Eagle 2A Player of the Year because he gave the loaded Seahawks the ingredients they needed to win. Seabury finished 21-2 and seemingly had a different star every night. But Bloch’s final game demonstrates his talent: he shot 12-15 for 27 points against Valley Heights.
26 Charles Snyder Charles Snyder 6'5" | PF Emporia | 2021 State KS , forward, Emporia:
Snyder can dominate the lane as well as handle the ball and shoot from the perimeter, making him a nightmare matchup. He was somewhat overlooked because his team finished the regular season 11-9. But the 6-foot-5 junior averaged 21.1 points and 8.3 rebounds during the regular season. He was a monster in the playoffs. He took down McPherson with 27 points, then scored 26 in the season-ending loss to Andover.
38 Dawson Zenger Dawson Zenger 6'1" | CG Rock Creek | 2021 State KS , guard, Rock Creek:
The 6-foot-1 guard is a scoring machine. He does it in the open floor, in the lane and from the perimeter. He averaged 19 points a game as a sophomore, and 25.5 as a junior. For an encore, he torched the playoffs. He went for 30 in a win over Santa Fe Trail at sub-state. Then, locked in a battle with St. Marys that ended in a 68-57 loss, Zenger had 33.
46 Tanner Hecht Tanner Hecht 6'5" | CG Wamego | 2021 State KS , forward, Wamego:
The 6-foot-5 Hecht passes the ball as well as he scores it. He’s got athleticism and length to be a mismatch, and he is dangerous from the perimeter. He averaged 15.2 points and 7.1 boards. He went down swinging, putting up 15 versus Mulvane in the sub-state loss.
58 Owen Braxmeyer Owen Braxmeyer 6'1" | CG Manhattan | 2021 State KS , guard, Manhattan:
Braxmeyer was one of the few juniors to see playing time on the senior-laden Indians. He has a diverse game and was a glue player for a talented team. The 6-foot-1 was a stud in the playoffs. He followed up his 16-point outing against Wichita East with 10 against Wichita West to advance to state.
63 Nathan Hawk, forward, Valley Falls:
The 6-foot-6 Hawk played in lockstep with some talented teammates last year. He’s a versatile and athletic player who can dominate in the lane and from the perimeter. He finished with some huge games, getting 21 against Oskaloosa and 24 against Troy.
