One of the “Names to Know” is Quincy 6’6” shooting guard Jeremiah Talton. He was a name that was brought up to us several times late in the season so we recently checked out his 22 minute Hudl video and wow did we come away impressed!
He has excellent size on the perimeter for the two guard spot with a long and lanky frame that can add some strength moving forward. His biggest asset at this stage is his three point shooting. Free and easy release on triples off the catch. Very repeatable mechanics and excellent shot prep. This past season he drilled 56 total threes shooting 40% from beyond the arc. Moves well without the ball to get open coming off screens.
Plus athlete that is explosive around the hoop. Quick catching dump off passes on the baseline and finishing them from his teammates. Also rebounds very well for a young guard recording 6 boards a game as a sophomore. Particularly effective getting on the offensive glass for second chance points. Also does work inside against smaller perimeter defenders taking them to the block for scores in the paint. Solid ball handler that uses his athleticism off the bounce. Finishes pretty well through contact.
Defensively he might have set the record for most number of charges I have seen in a highlight video. On the year he recorded 22 charges taken. Also uses length getting in passing lanes and can block an occasional shot in help defense. High-majors and mid-majors need to have him on their radars now!
We caught up with Talton who spoke about the strengths in his game.
“I feel like my strengths are I can stretch the floor and I can shoot the ball. I can score from the inside and the outside and I can score in many different ways.”
Where do things stand with his early recruitment?
“Purdue and Nebraska have reached out to my high school coach, but my options are still open for sure and I also took an unofficial visit to Kansas.”
He spoke about that Kansas trip from last October.
“I took the unofficial with my AAU team MoKan and Coach Self talked to us and other players as a group so he didn’t talk to me personally. The thing I liked about the visit the most was the atmosphere and the facility was awesome.”
In addition to the two Big 10 schools mentioned above his high school coach has spoken with Illinois about his as well. In our next update/tweaking of the 2022 class rankings look for Talton to debut somewhere in the top 10. Check out his highlights below!
