Continue ReadingOver the last few weeks, we witnessed a whirlwind of recruiting news from commitments in both the 2020 and 2021 classes to countless offers being thrown around to the 2021 and 2022 classes. For whatever reason this past week, the news in the Maryland/DC area slowed down, but there were still significant announcements made from prospects. Let’s dive in.
COMMITMENTS
2020 Lake Clifton guard Zack Blackwell Zack Blackwell 6'0" | CG Lake Clifton | 2020 State MD committed to Lincoln (PA). The 5-foot-11 guard is scrappy and one of the best on-ball defenders in the area. He’l’ bring energy, toughness and shooting to a program who looks to be in transition mode in the CIAA.
2021 St. Andrews Episcopal wing TJ Gadsden TJ Gadsden 6'6" | PF St. Andrew's | 2021 MD announced his commitment to George Mason. Gadsden was a name that was gaining traction since the high school season came to an end, so the fact that the Patriots were able to lock him in was huge. Gadsden is a 6-foot-7 wing with impressive athleticism and has a great chance of being a consistent producer throughout his college career.
OFFERS
2021 Frederick Douglass forward Abdou Samb Abdou Samb 6'8" | C Frederick Douglass | 2021 State MD continues to experience a recruitment as he was offered by Robert Morris, Hampton and East Tennessee State. I’ve spoken on what Samb brings to the table in previous recruiting reports, but I’ll admit I wouldn’t have thought this number of schools would extend offers during this extended dead period.
2021 Good Counsel guard Day’Juan Waters received an offer from East Tennessee State. The 6-foot-4 three-level scorer adds to his list as Stony Brook offered Waters last summer. ETSU seems determined to make themselves a presence in the DMV area.
2021 Good Counsel guard Bez Mbeng Bez Mbeng 6'3" | CG Good Counsel | 2021 State #190 Nation MD was offered by Robert Morris. This is Mbeng’s second offer in May with the previous one coming from Towson.
2021 Rock Creek Christian forward Zaakir Williamson Zaakir Williamson 6'7" | PF Rock Creek Christian | 2021 PA received an offer from Akron. Following an impressive season at RCC, Williamson proved himself as a scorer and enforcer defensively as the 6-foot-6 forward was the tallest player on the roster. Akron marks Williamson’s first offer of the spring, but has nine other offers to show for.
