#1 Percy Daniels Percy Daniels 6'8" | PF Madison Prep | 2022 State LA | 6’8″ | Madison Prep
The all-state first teamer (3A) averaged a double-double for the season. He was a terror on the defensive end for the Chargers as they pushed their way to another state title. While they ultimately fell short of that goal, Daniels has shown he can be a dominate force in the middle. Watch for him to become more of a focal point offensively going into next season.
#2 Labree Williams Labree Williams 6'6" | SF Calvary Baptist | 2023 #186 Nation FL | 6’5″ | Calvary Baptist
Williams was a 1-1A all district selection and an all-state honorable mention player in 1A. While he had a good sophomore season picking up three DI offers along the way, he seemed to save his best for the playoffs. His play against Opelousas Catholic and Hamilton Christian helped the Cavs make the Division IV title game. Because the Cavalier offense should run through him, look for him to take more of a leadership role going into next season.
#3 Kyran Ratliff | 6’8″ | KIPP BTW
Ratliff became the leading scorer for the Lions this season averaging over 18 points a game. This earned him his first team all-state nod in 3A. Ratliff can play with his back to the basket and get up and down better than most big men in the state. His game has earned him interest from Georgetown and Arkansas already. Expanding his perimeter over the summer, and next season, should expand the pool of high and mid-major schools after him.
#4 Dorian Finister Dorian Finister 6'5" | CG Carver | 2022 State #173 Nation LA | 6’5″ | G.W. Carver (pictured below)
Finister was a big part of the Rams run to the 4A semifinals in Lake Charles. The all-state honorable mention put teams on notice throughout the playoffs that he is an ascending player on the Louisiana prep scene. His shooting mixed with his athleticism and finishes at the rim have made a threat from multiple areas on the floor. He will definitely go into next season as a preseason pick for all-state in Louisiana.
#5 Dionjahe Thomas Dionjahe Thomas 6'8" | PF Ellender | 2022 TX | 6’8″ | Ellender
The Ellender big man had a very good season. His 21 ppg helped the Patriots reach the second round of the 4A playoffs before bowing out to Breaux Bridge. Thomas is big and athletic. Finishing above the rim was a regular occurence for him this season. Thomas rose to a 20 point scorer by stepping out on the perimeter and making shots. Next season, look for him to rise from second team to first team all-state with improvement in his game.
#6 Solomon Washington Solomon Washington 6'7" | SF Carver | 2022 State #127 Nation LA | 6’7″ | G.W. Carver (pictured above)
Washington may be sixth on this list right now; however, he probably has the greatest upside of anyone on this list. The 6’7″ forward made all-state honorable mention and that was mostly from finishing at the rim and defense. He has shown flashes, during games, of being able to make jumpers from mid-range and distance as well. Look for his game to grow even more between the time gyms open and the beginning of the season.
#7 John-Paul RIcks | 6’0″ | Jehovah-Jireh
Ricks was named the class C most outstanding player and helped lead the Warriors to another state championship. He definitely stepped up his scoring averaging 24 a game. Not only did Ricks scored big, he took on any defensive assignments that came his way. He is definitely the most battle tested guard in his class with the schedule they play. With more athletic improvements to his game, he will definitely be one to watch going forward.
#8 Rayshun McCullar Rayshun McCullar 6'1" | PG Huntington | 2022 State LA | 6’1″ | Huntington
A player that has gotten his fair share of interest from the Division I level is Rayshun McCullar Rayshun McCullar 6'1" | PG Huntington | 2022 State LA . Schools from Grambling to Clemson have asked about the sophomore point guard. On the court, he has matured in his decision making. Going from shoot first, shoot second during his freshmen year to a guard who makes the right play only helped his game. Reverting to scoring first will make him the most dangerous Raider on the floor next season.
#9 Tawasky Johnson Tawasky Johnson 6'0" | PG Port Allen | 2021 State LA | 6’0″ | Port Allen
Johnson is one of the more athletic point guards in any class. He can make athletic plays at the rim as well as jumpers from the perimeter. His combination of skills were an important reason in Port Allen winning the 2A state title. Johnson also earned all-state honorable mention recognition because of his play season long. Going from being the hurter to the hunted next season, Johnson will be challenged nightly. I think he will be ready though.
#10 Reginald Stoner Reginald Stoner 6'1" | CG North Central | 2022 State LA | 6’1″ | North Central
In back-to-back seasons, Stoner has been an important part of North Central and their state title runs. Whether it was by scoring, rebounding, or defending, Stoner made sure that his success was part of the Hurricanes overall success. Next season he will form a dynamic duo with 2021 #1 Derrick Tezeno Derrick Tezeno 6'5" | SF North Central | 2021 State LA as North Central goes for three in a row. His two-way play should be a big reason why the Hurricanes will have a good shot at another title.
The 2022 class has some depth to it as one digs deeper into the rankings. Depending on their growth, I can see this being one of the more fluid ranking list because of the talent in recent memory. We will keep an eye on these ten, and many others, as this class evolves as upperclassmen.
