We’ve been fortunate to experience an overhaul of talent and potential with the last couple of newcomers and from the looks of 2024, there will be no significant drop off. This list will obviously be extended over time as more players are brought to light, but the first couple of articles are taking a look at some of the highly anticipated names to hit the high school scene in Baltimore for 2021-22.
Keep in mind that some prospects who will be named haven’t officially decided on their high school destinations, but the majority are enrolled in the schools mentioned in the write-up, I’ve been told.
Sincere Barfield | 5’11 | Parkville
Barfield is a 5-foot-11 point guard with plus athleticism and strength for this age. He will be heading to Parkville High School as he looks to follow the void left behind by John Godinez John Godinez 5'10" | PG Parkville | 2020 State MD (Notre Dame College) for the next four years. Barfield brings a tremendous motor, toughness and competitiveness to both sides of the floor that should help him see immediate success in Baltimore County.
Chris Thomas | 6’4
Thomas is a 6-foot-4 wing who can score at an impressive clip from three. He also can make things interesting off the bounce. Thomas has high IQ and good size that makes him a threat after grabbing a defensive board and making decisions with the basketball. Thomas has made his decision on where he will attend high school, but pending official paperwork, I will hold off on saying what school that is.
Tyrin Bizelle | 5’8 | Douglass
Bizzelle is regarded as one of the top floor generals locally in this class. He’s a heady point guard who can facilitate offense in the halfcourt while controlling the pace of a game in transition. Crafty both as a distributor and scorer, Bizzelle demands attention from his match-up at all times with his ability to knock down perimeter shots. He has all the makings to be an impact guard in Baltimore City.
RJ Newton | 6’4 | Archbishop Spalding
Newton will add immense talent to a Spalding team that should make a significant move towards the top of the standings in the MIAA. At 6-foot-4, Newton is a versatile wing that can contribute in several statistical categories. He’s a willing rebounder on the offensive end and is a competent defender through multiple positions. Newton fits the mold as a high-potential prospect.
Bryson Tucker | 6’4 | Mt. St. Joseph
Tucker is a player that has a chance to be one of the top players in this class locally. At 6-foot-4 Tucker is a dynamic guard who comes from a strong basketball background. He has advanced understanding for the game and how to make an impact in a variety of ways. There’s a chance that Tucker could grow up to around 6-foot-7, which would only add value given his solid skill set as a guard. Placing him into Mount St. Joe’s program should result in tremendous development and preparation to play college at a high level.
