Indiana is loaded with talent and this is a fun exercise to see how talent over a few classes stack up in areas. So, we are looking at each area and taking in 2021, 2022, and 2023 prospects and ranking our Top 10. Today, we have South Bend.
1. Blake Wesley Blake Wesley 6'5" | SG South Bend Riley | 2021 State #95 Nation IN – 6’5 SG 2021 – South Bend Riley (IN)
Wesley is a big guard with a scoring penchant that is growing each time we see him. Tremendous upside with his frame and overall skill for the position. Needs to get to a point where the frame is filled out more and that might be in college but if he does, his ability to play in the lane should take a big jump forward.
2. Douglas Konieczny Douglas Konieczny 6'8" | SF South Bend St. Joseph | 2021 State #156 Nation IN – 6’8 SF 2021 – South Bend St. Joseph (IN)
JR has really turned a corner in the last year. Now looking like one of the best players in the Midwest, his size for his position makes him an early impact player for a college program. Lacks the strength needed at this point but he’s 6’8 and can knock down triples at a pretty good clip as well as pretty much anything else he wants to do.
3. Adam O’Dell Adam O’Dell 6'8" | C South Bend St. Joseph | 2021 State IN – 6’8 C 2021 – South Bend St. Joseph (IN)
O’Dell is a big man that looked close to taking a step forward this Spring but might be hurt by that with the circumstances. When we play again, Adam’s strength has really moved into the forefront of his game and he was more physical that he had ever been. Really tough now and the low post game could blossom quickly.
4. Kaleo Kakalia Kaleo Kakalia 6'6" | PF Mishawaka Marian | 2022 State IN – 6’5 SF 2022 – Mishawaka Marian (IN)
Kaleo is a big wing with strength and a slightly raw skill set. However, he’s one of those players with so much upside that you are going to wait it out. He’s got the physical tools you want to see and can handle the ball pretty well. Want to see the jumper take a step forward and him to become more aggressive but gives you rebounding and defensive abilities right now.
5. Jack Futa Jack Futa 6'6" | SF South Bend St. Joseph | 2021 State IN – 6’5 SF 2021 – South Bend St. Joseph (IN)
Futa is a lean wing with some speed and length. Not the type of guy that is going to blow your mind right now but very much built with upside and room to grow quickly. He’s got a chance to be a high-end defender on guards and wings and a mixture of inside-out game that has yet to really develop but it is there.
6. Will Terry Will Terry 6'5" | PF South Bend St. Joesph | 2021 State IN – 6’5 PF 2021 – South Bend St. Joseph (IN)
Will is a guy that came on this year. Tough, strong forward that has a little bit of a game that is still to be determined. He’s really good in the middle of the floor with good instincts. Doesn’t have a ton of height but enough to make the plays he needs against bigger defenders.
7. Sam Smith Sam Smith 6'0" | PG Northridge | 2021 State IN – 6’0 PG 2021 – Northridge (IN)
Sam is a thin scoring guard that could have a heck of a senior season. High-end, high-volume shooter with range to the volleyball line. He’s a point guard but set for a team that needs an instant boost of offense. Would like to see how he does with the ball out of his hands and how he scores but he’s potent regardless.
8. Richard Brooks Richard Brooks 6'3" | SF Mishawaka Marian | 2022 State IN – 6’4 SF 2022 – Mishawaka Marian (IN)
Richard is a big, bruising wing that could still grow and have a heck of a junior season. Sat out due to transfer so he’s just now going to see his name pop in the state but can kind of do it all. Decent shooter, great athlete for his size and build, and tough. Like the makeup and a strong Fall of development could take him up a level.
9. Marcus Northern Marcus Northern 6'2" | PG South Bend Washington | 2023 State IN – 5’11 PG 2023 – South Bend Washington (IN)
Marcus is just a freshman but he’s so tough on the ball for his age and seems to get it pretty quickly. Makes some plays now but is built to be a 3-and-D guy early on. Shooting is his forte right now. In a year, could be at the top of this list with graduations and a year of development and physical maturity.
10. Cole Hatkevich Cole Hatkevich 5'11" | PG South Bend St. Joseph | 2022 State IN – 5’11 PG 2022 – South Bend St. Joesph (IN)
Cole is a small lead guard but one of the better decision makers and shooters in the area. He’s really good as a shooter and creates along the perimeter well. Should be able to continue as a shooter and has the twitch and speed to get in the lane and score or dish if he can start to add some strength to the frame.
