Indiana is loaded with talent and this is a fun exercise to see how talent over a few classes stack up in areas. So, we are looking at each area and taking in 2021, 2022, and 2023 prospects and ranking our Top 10. Today, we have Indianapolis.
1. Pierce Thomas Pierce Thomas 6'5" | SG Brownsburg | 2021 State #153 Nation IN – 6’5 SG 2021 – Brownsburg (IN)
The Butler commit is one of the more athletic players I have ever scouted before. He’s a guy that has the ability to make a play that wows the crowd and in the last year his jumper has really come along. It is one of those players where you know he’s just going to be so much better in college than in high school.
2. D’Ante Davis D’Ante Davis 6'7" | SF Warren Central | 2022 State #132 Nation IN – 6’6 SF 2022 – Lawrence Central (IN)
D’Ante is a young wing with a frame that should grow and a wide variety of skill. He’s got decent on-ball creating ability with a useable jumper and is dynamic around the rim. Once that frame fills out, add in his competitive side, and he’s going to take a big step forward.
3. DJ Hughes DJ Hughes 6'8" | PF Lawrence North | 2021 State #219 Nation IN Jr. – 6’7 PF 2021 – Lawrence North (IN)
D.J. is just a really reliable, tough forward that plays so well in space. With his size and athleticism, he needs to find room to run because when he does it is impressive and effective. Not a guy you want to be paired up with because he’s kind of a havoc-style player that thrives on freedom.
4. Jayden Taylor Jayden Taylor 6'4" | SG Perry Meridian | 2021 State #224 Nation IN – 6’3 SG 2021 – Perry Meridian (IN)
The Butler commit is a tough one who is going to have a better college career than he is having right now. Asked to do pretty much everything because he has the skill to do it all. Tall guard who can create a bit but scores well from all over the floor. Great frame that is going to really fill out quickly and less stress should allow him to blossom.
5. Chris Gunn Chris Gunn 6'5" | SG Lawrence North | 2022 State #114 Nation IN – 6’4 SG 2022 – Lawrence North (IN)
Gunn proved this year he is one of the best players in the Midwest with his size and skill, he was asked to play on the ball as a creator a ton and he excelled on a loaded roster and rose to the top. He’s the type of guy that shouldn’t have any issues taking on more responsibilities and add scoring.
6. Donovan Barnett Donovan Barnett 6'5" | SF Crispus Attucks | 2021 State IN – 6’5 SF 2021 – Crispus Attucks (IN)
Donavan is a tough wing forward that hasn’t quite hit that next tier of talent but is really, really close. Big, strong, and effective as a ball handler, Barnett should really see his stock go up when he’s given more touches.
7. Shamar Avance Shamar Avance 6'1" | PG Lawrence North | 2021 State IN – 6’1 PG 2021 – Lawrence North (IN)
Shamar really came into his own and showed that he’s one of the elite point guards in the state. He’s tall and long and has one of the better balances of scoring and passing I’ve seen in a while. Can take over a game when he needs to but put talent around him and he is so dangerous.
8. Jaden Thomas Jaden Thomas 6'2" | SG International | 2021 State IN – 6’2 SG 2021 – International (IN)
Jaden is a wired scorer that can make all three levels with ease. He’s athletic and quick for his size and looks like he still has a ton of room to grow in college. His upside is kind of cloudy because he could be more of a point or develop more for higher level scoring totals but will need to see him around more talent and that could give a better idea of his development direction.
9. Malik Stanley Malik Stanley 6'0" | PG Warren Central | 2021 State IN – 5’11 PG 2021 – Warren Central (IN)
When looking back, this is probably going to be too low and Malik has really taken off in his development. He was asked to go from youngest guy on the roster, graduating everyone but him, to taking over the scoring when he really hadn’t shown it before. What happened was so impressive. He quickly become one of the best scorers in the state with creativity and toughness.
10. Tayshawn Comer Tayshawn Comer 6'0" | PG Cathedral | 2022 State #226 Nation IN – 5’11 PG 2022 – Cathedral (IN)
Comer is a heady lead guard who really just developed into one of the best floor generals in the state in just a year. He’s going to see his scoring increase over the years and how he gets those points will be interesting because it’s tough to tell where he is dominant because he just kind of gets it done in every way you can think of. Every. Single. Time.
