Indiana City Rankings: Fort Wayne
Today, we are continuing our series on each of the major cities/regions in the state. Indiana is loaded with talent and this is a fun exercise to see how talent over a few classes stack up in areas. So, we are looking at each area and taking in 2021, 2022, and 2023 prospects and ranking our Top 10. Today, we have Fort Wayne.
1. Caleb Furst Caleb Furst 6'9" | PF Blackhawk Christian | 2021 State #34 Nation IN – 6’8 PF 2021 – Blackhawk Christian (IN)
The Purdue commit is one of the top players in the country and his motor and toughness have been on display for a long time now. He’s the type of player who others can feed off of because he just puts his head down and does his thing around the rim. Even with all of the accolades and everything else, he’s still got a ton of room to grow.
2. Luke Goode Luke Goode 6'6" | SF Homestead | 2021 State #107 Nation IN – 6’6 SF 2021 – Homestead (IN)
The Illinois commit is one of the best all-around players in the Midwest and he’s such a difficult matchup at the high school level because of his size and skill. There are not many wings right now that can match up with him and he can play on the ball more than one would think. He’s a fit for a Big Ten school just surprised he got out of state.
3. Michael Eley Michael Eley 6'4" | SG Elevation Prep | 2021 State IN – 6’4 SG 2021 – Fort Wayne Snider (IN)
Eley is a long, lean wing who can really get hot. Has some consistency stuff he needs to work on but the base skillset is one that translates well and he’s got the frame DI coaches look for because if you can get the effort level up, he should physically be able to be a great defender at the next level.
4. Naylon Thompson Naylon Thompson 6'5" | PG Bishop Luers | 2021 State IN – 6’5 PG 2021 – Bishop Luers (IN)
Naylon is a big guard that has quite a bit of upside that he hasn’t quite tapped into yet. He’s got the handles and passing ability to play on the ball with enough offensive skill to justify it. He’s a capable shooter but is built more around his open floor and dribble-drive capability. One of the guys who could take a massive jump at some point.
5. Zane Burke Zane Burke 6'2" | SG Blackhawk Christian | 2021 State IN – 6’2 SG 2021 – Blackhawk Christian (IN)
Zane has been one of the hotter names in the northern part of the state because of his potent scoring ability. He’s tall, tough, and a big time shooter. He doesn’t have a long way to go to become a household name this next season. Built like a guy that is going to put up a ton of points in his senior season.
6. Khamani Smith Khamani Smith 6'5" | SF Fort Wayne Northrop | 2021 State IN – 6’5 SF 2021 – Fort Wayne Northrop (IN)
Khamani is a pure upside wing with a tremendous frame, a ton of size, and some driving ability. He’s not as polished as he could be right now but there is a ton about him that tells you he could end up way higher on this list in a year. If that refinement comes, he could be a stud that colleges will lock on to.
7. Austin Jordan Austin Jordan 5'11" | PG Fort Wayne South | 2021 State IN – 5’11 PG 2021 – Fort Wayne South (IN)
Austin is a tough, heady lead guard who always seems to make a great play. He’s quick and decisive and when he sees an open man, he seems to get it to him every time in a spot where he can get a shot off. His feel for the game is something that not many have at this stage. Could play at a few different levels when it is all said and done.
8. Will Shank Will Shank 6'3" | SG Fort Wayne Canterbury | 2021 State IN – 6’3 SG 2021 – Fort Wayne Canterbury (IN)
Will is a big guard who has a ton of strength and a great all-around scoring ability. Deep and mid-range is solid and he’s plenty capable of playing in the lane to drive or create. Not a point guard but a guy who can help on the ball and make plays. His size and strength allow him to do a ton of things at the next level.
9. Blake Davison Blake Davison 6'0" | PG Leo | 2021 State IN – 6’0 PG 2021 – Leo (IN)
Blake is a playmaker that just racks up stats every time on the floor. He’s a pass-first guard who plays so well within himself, not exposing the ball or allowing for a big mistake. He’s a coaches dream because he can eliminate mistakes while providing a decent amount of offense and leadership.
10. Andrew Leeper Andrew Leeper 6'6" | PF Homestead | 2022 State IN – 6’5 SF 2022 – Homestead (IN)
One of the more interesting forwards to watch in the 2022 class, Andrew is a big, strong shooter who has the ability to get in the middle of the paint and mix it up. He’s starting to resemble an inside-out four man but he might have a little more versatility once fully healthy. Long way to go but one that you should watch.
