Some players just turn into different athletes as they get older and some of those stat producing freshmen get caught in the long run. Either way there are a few players who we have been able to see and they have been getting a lot better in such a short time. One comes at you from Pleasant Grove, Utah and the other all the way from Southern Utah in St. George.
Don’t worry about where he is currently ranked Michael Mitton can ball. He has great size at 6’3 and while he does have a good handle he is strong with the basketball as he is able to take bumps and not flinch. He can get to the basket on quick moves and not mess around with his defender. He attacks the rim with a lot of energy. He can defend at the other end as well. He is an impressive guard that will rise in the rankings. He will be that player that people will ask who is that. Pleasant Grove could have a double-headed monster in the backcourt for years to come.
There are a lot of players across the state that can score, but how they score is what makes this kid impressive. Flat footed dunks under the basket, rotating into open spots when the defense collapses or helps and hitting the outside 15 footer is what makes Lyman Simmons Lyman Simmons 6'10" | PF RSL Academy | 2023 State UT impressive. The IQ aspect of basketball is not easy to master. There are some kids that have it and there are others that work hard to understand the game. Lyman is the later as he learns how to move and his footwork gets better he will be a prized prospect in the Class of 2023. With very few bigs around Lyman has a shot to make it to the top. With a good free-throw percentage this kid will increase his numbers because he is going to get 7-12 free-throw shots a game.
We are looking forward to seeing the Class of 2023 continue to grow and improve in all aspects of their game.
