College Commitment: Steven Long (2020 Tigard HS)
Steven Long Steven Long 6'3" | CG Tigard | 2020 State OR has found a college home. The lanky 6-foot-3, 165-pound wing played varsity ball at Tigard for the first this time past season and caught some eyes with his play and potential. Long wanted to play at the next level and started investigating several options. When it came down to it, there was one program that interested him the most and Long decided to make the commitment to continue his playing career at Central Wyoming College.
“They’re a national JUCO and that was intriguing to me so I waited on them,” Long said. “I did some virtual tours, talked to the coach on the phone a lot and they Facetimed my parents. They’re bringing in a good class with Jack (Chlumak) and I’m just going to try and improve myself as much as I can and we’ll see how it goes from there.”
Similar to Chlumak of Lake Oswego, Long is a high-academic performer and had garnered interest from a number of Division III programs both local and out-of-state. But thanks to some connections through trainer Kumbeno Memory, Long got in touch with Central Wyoming and the relationship was built.
Long averaged 9.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists this past season at Tigard while shooting 35 percent from behind the three-point line. Long has a lanky build with the ability to finish at the rim and has an abundance of upside – something he hopes to continue tapping into at the NJCAA level.
“I definitely want to get bigger and be more assertive all-around,” Long said. “I just want to get my confidence up pretty much as that’s kind of the main thing that’s holding me back.”
Long finished as the #56 ranked player in the final Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
