First up, we break down the area of Raleigh/Durham with the Top 10 overall players.
#1 William Felton William Felton 6'9" | PF Millbrook | 2021 #234 Nation VA | 6-9 F | Millbrook
Felton is the top overall prospect in the Raleigh/Durham area and for good reason with his size in the paint at 6-foot-9. He utilizes his size well to control the glass and paint area. This past season, he posted 22 double-doubles while averaging 19.8 ppg, 11.2 rpg, 1.9 bpg and 1.8 apg for Millbrook. He won Cap7 Conference Player of the Year and was a first-team All-District performer as well. So far, he holds offers from UNC-Wilmington, High Point, Appalachian State, Hofstra and Elon and was due for a big performance on the grassroots scene.
#2 Carter Whitt Carter Whitt 6'2" | PG Leesville Road | 2021 State #64 Nation NC | 6-2 G | Leesville Road
Whitt is a combo guard that makes things happen on the floor. He’s a prospect that makes everybody better around with his high IQ for making sharp passes for easy buckets. He can score it on all three levels and is athletic enough to get to the rim and finish with authority as well. As he’s gone along his prep and grassroots career, he’s continued to turn heads with what he can do. He holds a number of offers from mid-major and high-major programs and is due for a strong senior season.
#3 Bobby Pettiford Bobby Pettiford 6'1" | PG South Granville | 2021 State #115 Nation NC Jr. | 6-0 PG | South Granville
Pettiford had a stellar season with the South Granville Vikings, putting up 21.8 ppg, 7.4 apg, 6.0 rpg and 2.9 spg for the 30-1 Vikings as they made it to the 2A Final Four. He won District Player of the Year, Conference Player of the Year and earned All-State honors on MaxPreps as well as he continues to impress with his all-around guard skills and athleticism. He hasn’t shown off his full arsenal just yet but he was due to put on a show on the EYBL circuit with Team CP3. He holds offers now from Providence, UNC-Wilmington, Elon, Virginia Tech and High Point.
#4 Eric Van Der Heijden Eric Van Der Heijden 6'9" | SF Millbrook | 2021 State #235 Nation NC | 6-7 F | Millbrook
Van Der Heijden is a 6-foot-9 forward that can play inside and on the wing. On the interior, he likes to get to the rim and finish and from the perimeter, he’s quite the 3-point shooter. He shot 45 percent from 3-point land while averaging 12.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.4 blocks per game for Millbrook. He’s been racking up the offers of late given his versatile skill set from Providence, Marquette, UNC-Wilmington, Cincinnati and Appalachian State with a number of offers from other high-major and mid-major programs.
#5 Elijah Jamison Elijah Jamison 6'3" | PG Liberty Heights | 2022 State #204 Nation NC | 6-3 G | Louisburg
Jamison is a prospect that knows how to adjust his game to the situation to will his team to victory. He produced 29.7 ppg, 12.3 rpg, 3.8 apg and 2.0 spg in 2019-20 for the Louisburg Warriors in 2019-20, showing that he can do whatever is needed at 6-foot-2 to get it done on the hardwood. He’s starting to draw some attention, especially from in-state colleges. He holds offers from UNC-Wilmington, Elon, James Madison and Ole Miss.
#6 Lucas Taylor Lucas Taylor 6'6" | SG Heritage | 2021 State #184 Nation NC | 6-4 G | Heritage
Taylor is a prospect who’s recruitment has really picked up during the Coronavirus pandemic. He’s a versatile 6-foot-4 guard that can use his length to get to the rim but also likes to fill it up from deep. He took home NAC VI Co-Player of the Year honors for his play in 2019-20 for Heritage while averaging 21.6 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.3 apg and 1.6 spg. He also shot 39 percent from 3-point land, making 66 3-pointers on the season. He holds offers from Elon, Wake Forest, Appalachian State, Old Dominion, VCU, UNC-Wilmington, Vanderbilt and the list keeps growing.
#7 Jalen McDonald Jalen McDonald 6'5" | CG Leesville Road | 2021 State NC | 6-5 F | Leesville Road
McDonald was a new face for Leesville Road in 2019-20, though he appeared in just 11 games. He still made an impact with his play on the floor, making plays above the rim and keeping their crowd on their feet with his highlight reel dunks. He’s a 6-foot-5 athletic freak that loves getting out and making things happen at the rim and put up 30 points against Millbrook in the state playoffs in a decisive victory. He holds offers from Murray State, Norfolk State, Ole Miss, East Carolina and Appalachian State.
#8 Zion Connor Zion Connor 6'0" | CG Page | 2021 State NC | 6-9 F | GRACE Christian
Itejere is a forward prospect at 6-foot-9 that’s just scratching the surface with what he can do on the hardwood. He’s got a high motor that allows him to rebound and block shots on both ends. He put up 8.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 1.6 apg and 1.4 bpg this past season for GRACE Christian. He can get to the rim and create off the bounce on the perimeter and is quite the paint presence as well on offense. As he learns to make an impact every play on the floor, he’ll be one to keep an eye on in the area. He holds offers from UNC-Wilmington, Radford and Elon.
#9 Terence Harcum Terence Harcum 6'1" | CG Granville Central | 2021 State NC Jr. | 6-1 G | Granville Central
Harcum is an emerging guard prospect that’s shown a knack for putting together triple-doubles with ease. He put up three of them in 2019-20 while putting up 25.9 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 6.8 apg and 4.3 spg for the Granville Central Panthers. He’s a strong combo guard that can play the point and off the ball, he knows how to work to get open for shots in isolation with ease. He’s a prospect who’s name should grow in the area very soon. He holds offers from Elon and Winthrop.
#10 Daylen Berry Daylen Berry 6'4" | CG Panther Creek | 2021 State NC | 6-4 SG | Panther Creek
Berry is an impressive shooting guard that uses his length well on both ends at 6-foot-4. He produced 17.9 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 2.2 spg, 1.5 bpg and 1.7 apg for Panther Creek in 2019-20, He’s more than just a shooter with his ability to defend multiple positions and block shots in the paint. He isn’t afraid to get others open either to make things easier on himself within the offense. He holds offers from North Carolina A&T, Charleston Southern, UNC-Wilimington and UNC-Greensboro.
