What are the stipulations? None, really. Regardless of positions, what our top 10?
#1 Maker Bar Maker Bar 6'9" | C Ballard | 2022 State KY , Ballard – Maker is long and athletic and his skill level continues to improve. His ceiling is the highest of anyone in this group because he’s got the height to play the 4 spot at the next level. He’s been in Kentucky for less than a year and continues improving thanks to a good work ethic.
#2 James Jewell James Jewell 6'6" | PF Marion County | 2022 State KY , Eastern – James is long and athletic but needs to show improved wing skill to transition to the next level like he wants to. Jewell plays with a great motor and pretty high basketball IQ. His ceiling is fairly high but he’ll have to grow a couple more inches or be labeled a “tweener” moving forward. Regardless of growth, he’s a D1 talent with 2 offers already.
#3 Christian Spalding Christian Spalding 6'4" | PG Evangel Christian | 2022 State KY , Eastern – One of my personal favorite players in the entire 22 class, Spalding is a crafty guard with an off the charts basketball IQ. Already holding 2 D1 offers, Christian has a high ceiling if he can bulk up and become better at finishing through traffic.
#4 Brandon Rayzer-Moore Brandon Rayzer-Moore 6'4" | SG Jeffersontown | 2020 IN , Jeffersontown – Rayzer-Moore is maybe the smoothest scorer in the group. He doesn’t waste energy and you’ll never see him dribble around without going anywhere. Brandon is continuing to grow and develop as his game continues to improve and he could be a sleeper pick for best college prospect in the class if he adds a couple more inches to his frame.
#5 Miles Franklin Miles Franklin 6'2" | PG Ballard | 2023 State KY , Trinity – Another guard with a high ceiling and IQ, Miles was having a strong Sophomore season before an injury ended his year. Franklin is long and a terrific defender and he knows how to get into the paint and create offense for himself and his teammates.
#6 Turrell Cleaves Turrell Cleaves 6'4" | SG Jeffersontown | 2022 State KY , Butler – Turrell always leaves me wanting more. Maybe the best pure athlete in the group, he has shown flashes of being the best player in the 2022 class in Kentucky, period. If he can get his motor running all the time, Cleaves has the potential to be a high major recruit. He’s just got to go and prove it to the coaches at that level.
#7 Kennedy Hayden Kennedy Hayden 6'3" | CG Ballard | 2022 State KY , Ballard – Another player with high potential that keeps me wanting to see more, “Keno” has been part of a crowded backcourt in the past few seasons but he has the measurables and athleticism that college coaches covet at the guard spot. Hayden should have a chance to shine for the Bruins next season and hopefully stays healthy after missing a little of his Sophomore season.
#8 Darien Lewis Darien Lewis 6'1" | PG Fern Creek | 2022 State KY , Fern Creek – Often overlooked because of playing on a team loaded with D1 teammates, Lewis has a great motor and can get into the paint and finish. He has to play off the ball quite a bit but his natural position is point guard. If he gets the chance to show what he can do this summer, Darien could impress some college coaches.
#9 Casey Steadmon Casey Steadmon 6'5" | SF Bethlehem | 2022 State KY , Jeffersontown – Another long athlete, Steadmon started with Lewis at Fern Creek but made the move to J-Town this season and the results are still TBD. When I got to see Casey against Butler, he was one of the best players on the floor in a game loaded with talent. At the same time, he disappeared to the bench for stretches. If he can start adding bulk to his thin frame, we’re talking about a scholarship level player in college.
#10 Andru Markham Andru Markham 6'4" | SG Fern Creek | 2022 State KY , Fern Creek – Markham missed several months after a knee injury but returned about 3/4 of the way through the year for the Tigers. Sporting a heavy brace now, Markham lost some of his burst and lateral quickness. Hopefully as he keeps getting back to 100%, he can get his athleticism back and show why he has been at the top of this whole class previously.
