Now it’s time to evaluate and rank the top post players in Detroit’s class of 2021. I picked 4 post players that I believe are at the top of the group.
#4
David Hughes David Hughes 6'6" | PF Detroit Edison | 2021 State MI (2021, PF, Detroit Edison)
Hughes is a versatile post prospect. He can play effectively at any pace, and is especially dangerous running the floor either on the wing or trailing the ball for a clean up. Hughes is a tough player that plays up and through contact. He’s a very high percentage finisher.
#3
Malachi Black Malachi Black 6'7" | PF Detroit University Prep Art & Design | 2021 State MI (2021, PF, Detroit University Prep Art & Design)
Black is long and athletic, and uses both in his defensive efforts. He plays the game vertically, rising up and challenging shots as well as being a springboard while attacking a ball off the rim. Black has a very high ceiling as a prospect.
#2
Damon Terrelle (2021, PF, Detroit CMA)
Terrelle sent a clear cut message at the end of the 2020-2021 season – That he will be a force to reckoned with from here on out. He was playing a tremendous all around game, late in the season especially. Terrelle proved that he could score and rebound at a high rate against top talent.
#1
Javantae Randle Javantae Randle 6'9" | PF Detroit Frederick Douglass | 2021 State MI (2021, PF, Detroit Frederick Douglass)
Randle has loads of potential and you could see that come to fruition last year under the tutelage of Pierre Brooks Pierre Brooks 6'5" | SG Detroit Douglass | 2021 State #76 Nation MI Sr. We can start out by saying that he’s a game changing defender. Randle blocks and alters shots whenever an opponent enters the lane. He uses his 6’9″ body and long arms to wall up and rise vertically. Randle showed marked improvement as the season went along in his offensive game. He became more active with put back buckets and appears to have developed some post moves as well. Randle will be a nice addition to a college program in the future.
