In this article, PH takes a look at the 10 most intriguing Reno area prospects that coaches may want to take a look at. For the purpose of this article, players from Carson City, and Fallon are included.
1. Joseph Summers Joseph Summers 5'11" | PG Carson City | 2021 State NV 5’11 PG Carson (#37PHN 2021) – Summers was the leading scorer in the Sierra Conference last season averaging just over 18 per game. He has a variety of skills that translate to the college level, most notably his ballhandling and shooting. Saw him perform well against tough competition last summer, which gives me confidence in his ability to translate his game to the next level.
2. Jackson Cherry Jackson Cherry 6'4" | SG Galena | 2021 State NV 6’4 SG Galena (#22PHN 2021) – Galena is one of the teams I was disappointed that I didn’t get to see last year. Cherry is part of a terrific quartet of players that helped the Grizzlies go 18-7. His size, skillset and production just can’t be ignored. At 6’4 Cherry shot over 34% from behind the arc, including knocking down 43 treys. He showed that he can be an explosive scorer, going for a season-high of 32 against Wooster.
3. Avery Strasdin Avery Strasdin 6'3" | SG Churchill County | 2021 State NV 6’3 SG Churchill County 2021 – I like winners and Strasdin certainly qualifies. The 6’3 guard is a versatile two-way player, that has been an integral part of back to back 3A titles. He did a little bit of everything last year, showing that he can score the ball, create for teammates and rebound his position. He also shot 37% from behind the arc, making him an intriguing prospect no doubt.
4. Isaac Wood Isaac Wood 6'2" | PG Galena | 2021 State NV 6’2 PG Galena (#27PHN 2021) – Wood is another one of the Intriguing Galena players. What jumps out at me most, is his handle. Wood is a crafty dribbler that can get anywhere on the floor. He proved to be a consistent scorer, going for double digits 15 times on the season.
5. Cort Ballinger Cort Ballinger 5'10" | PG Bishop Manogue | 2021 State NV 5’11 PG Bishop Manogue (#25PHN 2021) – Ballinger is one of the top on-ball defenders in the state. A gritty, tough hard-nosed competitor Ballinger is willing to do anything to help his team win, including sacrificing his own body. For coaches looking for a program defining PG, Ballinger is certainly a player to keep an eye on.
6. Parsa Hadjighasemi Parsa Hadjighasemi 6'4" | CG Carson | 2022 State NV 6’2 SG Carson 2022 (#16PHN 2022) – Hadjighasemi is a player wired to score. The combo guard proved he can get to the bucket on almost anyone. A high-level scorer that made 70 3’s last season, Hadjighasemi scored over 300 points as a sophomore last year.
7. Norman Dupree 6’6 PF Reed 2022 – Reed is an unranked young player worth another look. The raw post, is a fluid athlete that can rebound and score around the basket. He’s not an elite run and jump athlete, however, he’s no stiff. Dupree can protect the rim and impact games with his size and length.
8. Logan Howren Logan Howren 6'4" | SG Bishop Manogue | 2023 State NV 6’3 SF Bishop Manogue 2023 (#12PHN 2023) – The more I watch of Howren, the more I’m convinced of two things. He’s one of the more underrated players in the state, and he’s a bigger version of his teammate Ballinger. Howren excels on the defensive end with his willingness to stay in front of opponents. He also proved last year that he has the skills to score the ball, averaging nearly 10 per game, with a career-high of 19.
9. Grayson Grinsell 6’1 SG Reno 2022 – Grinsell plays with great confidence. Like many young players he needs to work on his shot selection. He shot less than 25% from behind the arc on 153 attempts. When he was on though, he was electric as evidence by 6 for 12 20 point performance in a 1 point loss to Manogue.
10. Trezelle Patterson Sparks 2021 – Just interested in learning more about the player that averaged 14 per last season. Sparks didn’t set the world on fire, but Patterson proved to be their most consistent option. He averaged 14 per game with a season-high of 27.
