When looking at the 2021 draft class in Brooklyn, the only word to describe it is “loaded.” This class contains talent everywhere, from players fighting to make a JUCO roster to players already bathing in Division I scholarship offers. The talent is so steep that when talking about the best players, it’s hard to leave players out. We have narrowed the field to 56 juniors, and here is the ranking and analysis on players #24-17.
24. Nelson Acevedo | Bushwick Leaders
Nelson has all the skills a forward needs, and the skills forwards don’t. Acevedo can defend against players looking to battle at the post as well as contest shots going back all the way to the perimeter. Acevedo can rebound well on both ends of the floor and put back misses while battle himself in the post. Acevedo can also shoot from distance, including the midrange and the three to add an extra spin to his game.
23. Isiah Folk | Brooklyn School for Law and Tech
Isiah Folk has been a change of pace guard for the Brooklyn School for Law and Tech. Folk can grab a rebound on one end and immediately initiate a fastbreak to catch the defense off guard. Folk can sprint for the easy layup even when the defense is set, using handles and ball fakes to create an open lane to the rim for him and his teammates. Folk can also run the offense, and find his teammates in the right moment when they are wide open to score.
22. Joshua Shepherd | Automotive High School
Joshua Shepherd has showcased his skills as an elite guard this season for A-tech. Shepherd can both run the floor and create lanes for himself and his team while he can execute precise passes to his teammates in the right location. Shepherd’s greatest strength is his shooting, where he can shoot at a near-half clip both off his own dribble, and on the catch and shoot. His quick release and high arc doesn’t need much time and allows him to shoot with a defender nearby.
21. Wayne Longmore | Erasmus Hall
The guard out of Erasmus Hall, Wayne Longmore has excelled in getting to the rim all season. Longmore can contort his body to make defenders reach to attempt to block him, and his height and agility just makes him more unguardable. Defenders are constantly fooled by his movements and either end up giving up an easy path to the basket or a trip to the free-throw line caused by flailing arms. Longmore’s playmaking and shooting just add to his stock.
20. Alpha Bah Alpha Bah 6'1" | SG Canarsie | 2021 State NY | Canarsie Educational Campus
Alpha Bah Alpha Bah 6'1" | SG Canarsie | 2021 State NY is a three and D player taken to the next level. Drawing comparisons to players such as Kyle Korver and Steve Kerr, Bah can truly put the ball in the hoop from distance. Bah has scored about 4 times as many three-point field goals than regular ones this season. His off-ball movement allows him to consistently be in an area without defenders, and once the ball is in his hands, Bah is bound to make it count.
19. Kymani Moses | East New York Family Academy
Kymani Moses has earned his reputation in being the scorer for East New York all season. Moses has been able to score from everywhere, whether it be from fastbreaks he led, turnovers he initiated, and fouls he caused. Moses’s ball-handling and speed and direction changes allow him to move right past defenders through open lanes to the basket, while he also has a reliable shot at his disposal, to be yet another scoring method for him.
18. Maxwell Davis | Brooklyn Tech
Max Davis Max Davis 6'2" | SG Brooklyn Tech | 2021 State NY contains an incredible shooting ability. He can shoot both off his own dribble and off a pass, and his range is limitless, with Davis sometimes attempting from deep behind the arc. Davis can also drive to the rim and score with a swift floater or take contact from larger defenders to make a play, whether that be a foul on him or defense clustering around him, leaving a teammate wide open.
17. Joel Koryor | Dr. Susan McKinney School of Art
Joel Koryor’s performance this season has been nothing short of beastlike. Koryor can be counted on leading his team, going through thick and thin to personally carry his team around. He would frequently be seen driving to the rim or executing passes to his teammates who would immediately score. Koryor would immediately grab a rebound and sprint to the other end, terrorizing defenses. Koryor was the unquestioned team leader for McKinney and should be in for a big senior year.
