With all travel ball events being put on indefinite hold, unsigned seniors didn’t get one final opportunity to showcase themselves to college coaches.
In addition to that, the NCAA transfer portal exploded and college coaches seemingly opted to go with more proven college talent than taking a chance on a senior in the absence of the spring live period.
Here’s some seniors I’ve watched this season who are still unsigned and could probably help a college team at some level, but could really benefit from a post graduate year.
Richard Law Jr.- 5’11” CG Woodrow Wilson
Richard is a 5’11” guard who is capable of playing on or off the ball. The senior guard shoots the ball extremely well and is able to score from all 3 levels. Law is one of the best shooters in the state. He has a great 1-2 dribble pull up from mid range or from deep. Richard is a solid finisher and he uses his quick first step to beat defenders off the dribble. The 6’0″ guard is a solid ball handler and is a good passer. Defensively, he is able to guard either guard position and he does a great job at speeding up the ball handler and making him uncomfortable.
Elijah Edwards- 5’11” CG Greater Beckley Christian
Pooh is a 5’11” guard who is capable of playing on or off the ball. His averages went from 6.6 points and 1.6 assists as a junior to 15.1 points and 6.0 assists per game as a senior. The lefty guard shoots the 3 ball extremely well. I may go as far to say he is the best shooter in the state as he shot nearly 50% from 3. Edwards also has a good pull up jumper. Edwards is a solid finisher who gets to the front of the rim at ease due to his elite speed and quickness. Edwards is a good ball handler and a solid facilitator. Defensively, Elijah does a great job at applying pressure to ball handlers and has a good sense of when to reach to strip the ball handler. He is able to guard either guard position because of his lateral foot speed.
Isaiah Hairston- 6’5” F Greater Beckley Christian
Hairston is a hefty 6’5″ forward who is skilled and has a high IQ. Hairston is good out of the post and uses both hands well. Hairston shoots it well, allowing him to stretch the floor and has the ability to put the ball on the floor and create for others. Defensively, he is physical and matches up well, even with bigs who are taller than him. Hairston rebounds the ball well on both sides, but especially on the offensive end, he is physical and has a good sense of where the ball will come off the rim. Hairston will be a steal wherever he ends up.
Thaddeus Jordan- 6’6” WF Greater Beckley Christian
Jordan is a 6’6” 2020 prospect who is extremely versatile. Jordan can play the 2, 3 or can be used as a stretch 4. Jordan shoots the ball very well off the catch from 3 and has a solid mid range pull up. Thaddeus is a solid ball handler and is a good passer. Jordan is a good finisher and can play above the rim. Defensively, in college he will be able to guard 2-4. Division II’s and prep schools should reach out. This is a kid who could blow up with a year of prep school.
