Manasquan’s Ben Roy Ben Roy 6'2" | PG Manasquan | 2022 State #218 Nation NJ was named Shore Conference Player of the Year and was selected to Second Team All-State. Will Richardson Will Richardson 6'2" | PG Bergen Catholic | 2022 State #76 Nation NJ and Mark Armstrong Mark Armstrong 6'2" | PG St. Peter's Prep | 2022 State #39 Nation NJ were both named to Third Team All-State after solid performances for their teams this season. While those three are some of the biggest names in the 2022, they are not the only ones to make an impact. Here are the top 2022 unranked difference-makers.
Jake Green, 5’10 PG Cherry Hill East
Teammate Drew Greene Drew Greene 5'10" | PG Cherry Hill East | 2022 State NJ ran the show for the Cougars, but Green was the more dangerous perimeter player. The 5’10 guard led the state in three-pointers with 102 as he was lethal from behind the arc. Green moves great off the ball and has a lightning quick release on his shot. He anticipates well on the defensive end and is an underrated passer. Cherry Hill East should be in contention again for the South Jersey Group 4 title with Greene and Green returning in the backcourt.
Ethan Sutherland, 6’0 PG Pequannock
The Panthers may have gone 8-16 last season, but they have one of the more underrated guards in the state in Sutherland. The 6’0 guard can attack the basket strong and finish on either side of the rim. Sutherland has a quick release on his shot and doesn’t need much room to get his shot off. He works hard on the defensive end and is a good rebounder. Pequannock is primed to have a solid 2020-21 season with Sutherland receiving more touches on offense.
David Luberoff, 6’8 PF Midland Park
Luberoff had a breakout season for Midland Park as he became one of the top big men in Group 1. The 6’8 big man has a nice touch around the basket and can finish through contact. Luberoff has a nice looking stroke and has range that extends to the three-point line. He is a solid post-defender and works hard on the glass. The Panthers should be one of the team’s to beat in Group 1 next season with Luberoff back in the fold.
Savon Myers, 6’4 SF Manchester Township
Classmate Wyatt Hasselbauer Wyatt Hasselbauer 6'7" | PF Red Bank Catholic | 2022 State NJ has controlled the paint for the Hawks, but Myers is the team’s star. The 6’4 forward is at his best attacking the basket as he knows how to finish through traffic. Myers is more than just a slasher as he can knock down three-pointers as well. He is a tough defender as he uses his combination of length, athleticism and timing to get blocks and steals. Manchester Township is primed for a good 2020-21 campaign with Myers and Hasselbauer coming back.
Malik Fields, 6’4 PF Neptune
Monmouth commit Sam Fagan Sam Fagan 5'10" | PG Neptune | 2021 State NJ is the Scarlet Fliers’ go-to guy, while Fields is responsible for the dirty work down low. He works hard on the glass and plays with good footwork down low. Fields has a nice touch around the basket and is developing his range. He moves his feet well on defense and is an underrated passer. Neptune will be looking to win more than 16 games next season with Fields getting more confidence down low.
