There have been quite a few players in the 2022 class to pick up offers recently, and we’re going to highlight who they are and when they got it. All of the offer information and time has come from twitter and the Verbal Commits website, which is possibly the most reliable recruiting page on the web. All of the offers listed have occurred since April has started. Take a look at some of the guys who are getting a lot of division one offers right now.
Jayden Epps Jayden Epps 6'1" | CG Combine Academy | 2022 State #41 Nation NC | 6’1” PG | Kings Fork (#1 Overall)
New Offers: Penn State, Arkansas, Ole Miss
Epps is already one of the most recruited guys in the state in the 2022 class, and even without AAU where he was primed to play 17U and blow up he’s still getting high major offers rolling in. Penn State, Ole Miss and Arkansas join a list that includes Florida, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, Providence, VCU, ODU and more who all see the talent in the young lead guard. He’s a guy who’s a natural scorer with deep range, he loves to be challenged and he can score it with the best of them in the country.
Maliq Brown Maliq Brown 6'8" | PF Blue Ridge | 2022 State #123 Nation VA | 6’8” PF | Blue Ridge (#2 Overall)
New Offer: Penn State, VCU
The secret is about to be out that Brown is one of the best big men in the state of VA regardless of class and should be a nationally ranked prospect moving forward. Penn State and VCU join TCU as programs who have offered him since the season ended, and the 6’8” big man is just scratching the surface with how good he can be. He isn’t a guy who will wow you in a work out with dribble moves or shooting ability, but he’s a blue collar big who knows his role, runs the floor and finishes everything and is very productive on both ends of the floor.
Tyler Nickel Tyler Nickel 6'8" | SF East Rockingham | 2022 State #85 Nation VA | 6’6” WF | East Rockingham (#3 Overall)
New Offer: Penn State
Nickel is one of the most decorated players through two years in VHSL history as he’s scored more points than anyone through two years and already holds school records for scoring and rebounding among other things. The 6’6” wing is a complete player on the offensive end as he can score it from multiple levels, he’s improved in his handle and ability to create shots and he’s a big time athlete who plays way above the rim. He’s a guy who was set to make his name known nationally this summer if AAU happens, and already holds offers from Virginia Tech and now Penn State.
Donald Hand Jr. Donald Hand Jr. 6'5" | CG Landstown | 2022 State #93 Nation VA | 6’4” CG | Landstown (#4 Overall)
New Offer: TCU
Hand Jr. moved up the rankings to #4 after he had a breakout sophomore year that saw him named to the VHSL Class 6 All State team. A long and skilled combo guard with good size that can make shots from all over, he’s a guy who is highly skilled already but is also just breaking in to how good he can be moving forward. TCU joins a list that includes ODU, Penn State and Hampton, and that list is only going to continue to grow moving forward.
Alphonzo “Fatts” Billups | 6’5” WG | Varina (#6 Overall)
New Offers: VCU, Temple
“Fatts” as Billups is known by his teammates and friends was arguably the biggest breakout guy in Richmond this year as he took a young Varina team many thought would be rebuilding to the state tournament. He’s just scratching the surface but Billups has all the tools to be a high major guy as he’s long and athletic, he can play on and off the ball and he can score it from multiple levels while also making the right decisions with the ball in his hands. Temple and VCU are the first programs on him but it’s only the beginning for him moving forward.
Kenyon Giles Kenyon Giles 5'11" | PG Oscar Smith | 2022 NV | 5’10” PG | Oscar Smith (#19 Overall)
New Offer: Southern Utah
Giles is perhaps the most under the radar guy across the state in this class but he had a great sophomore campaign with Smith and should be the guy there moving forward. He’s a fundamentally sound guy who shoots it extremely well from deep, can handle pressure and break down the defense and is a good on ball defender as well. Southern Utah did their homework and found an under the radar guy to keep an eye on moving forward.
Kyrese Mullens | 6’6” PF | Massanutten (#27 Overall)
New Offer: Bryant
Mullens has already seen improvements in his body and his game since transferring and reclassifying at Massanutten and Bryant is a school that has done well in the commonwealth in the past. He’s a brute of a power forward who can outmuscle guys taller than him in the post and he’s deceptively quick, but he’s also expanded his game to where he can shoot it and put it on the deck on the perimeter. His body looks good as he’s lost some weight and if he continues to improve he could see even more offers come his way.
Saxby Sunderland Saxby Sunderland 6'2" | CG Flint Hill | 2022 State VA | 6’2” CG | Flint Hill (#30 Overall)
New Offer: Southeastern Louisiana
Sunderland is a guy who is primed for a breakout year next year at Flint Hill where he’ll be one of their top returning players moving forward. Southeastern Louisiana isn’t someone who is in the state often but they must have done their homework because Sunderland is a combo guard with good size that’s likely still growing, he can score it in bunches off the bounce and he’s an excellent three-point shooter off the catch as well.
