I’ve began my release of position rankings for Baltimore, the area I cover heavily. It’s time to move to the 2022 class where there is no shortage of talent and even a few prospects who have a chance to play at the high-major Division I level. I understand there is much confusion these days with claiming a player’s true “position,” so instead of breaking down wings, forward and centers separately for this class I’ve decided to group them into one, break down their games in the write-ups and hopefully give the reader a better feel for what the player offers.

Guard breakdown:
15-11.
10-6.
5-1.
10. Joel Turay Joel Turay 6'7" | C John Carroll | 2022 State MD | 6’7 | John Carroll
Turay provided valuable minutes off the bench as the Patriots’ big. Standing 6-foot-7 with a strong frame and brute strength, Turay focused on making his impact by rebounding. He’s still getting adjusted to the American game’s pace and style of play offensively, but can still be utilized as an effective screen-setter for their number of three-point shooters. Turay looks to be extremely coachable and was effective at correcting mistakes. As he heads into his junior season, I expect him to settle in and become more of a post-presence offensively to help balance the Patriots’ attack.
9. Adam Angwafo Adam Angwafo 6'7" | C Bullis | 2022 State MD | 6’7 | Severn
Angwafo was a bright spot for a Severn team that had their share of struggles. The 6-foot-7 forward is at his best catching in the high-to-mid post area, facing up and ripping his way to the rim. On a few occasions, Angwafo got it going from three and also showed range on those shots. He has the size and length to be an impact on defense, it’s more so him keeping his focus that will unlock that potential consistently.
8. Hassan Massenburg Hassan Massenburg 6'5" | SF New Hope | 2022 State MD | 6’5 | N/A
It’s known that Massenburg will transfer from New Hope Academy, but he has not made a decision on what school he will attend. The 6-foot-5 wing reclassed to 2022 last season as he made a significant impact for the program in their first year of existence. Massenburg is a threat from three and can rattle off multiple shots from deep after seeing one fall. While he still needs to patch up his ball-handling, he’s shown some promise on his decision-making and vision as a passer.
7. Gavin Walsh Gavin Walsh 6'7" | PF Loyola Blakefield | 2022 State MD | 6’7 | Loyola Blakefield
Walsh started at center for the Dons as a sophomore and was efficient with his opportunities as a scorer. Loyola likes to play in the half court and execute sets with backdoor cuts, off-ball screens and incorporate their bigs out on the perimeter. Although he didn’t shoot many, Walsh is capable from making shots from three when open. He has good footwork when he catches on the block and soft touch on over the shoulder hooks. The next steps in his development will be to continue to grow into his body, develop a mean streak and dominate the glass.
6. John Thomas John Thomas 6'3" | SF Patterson | 2022 State MD | 6’3 | Patterson
Thomas played a number of positions for the Clippers this past season, a team who didn’t have much size to offer in their frontcourt. He was pretty much used in every way possible and responded by posting some impressive numbers throughout the season. He continues to grow as a shooter from off the bounce, but can make his impact by finishing around the rim and knocking down catch-and-shoots. An effective rebounder out of his area, Thomas plays with an edge and competitiveness that also allowed him to guard positions 1-4 competently.
