When you watch as many games as we do, no matter how organized we are there are always going to be kids that we forget. While we did 125 prospects in the latest rankings (we plan to go up to 150 in the next ones), there were quite a few I realized I forgot as soon as they were done. Here’s a look at some of them.
Tanyan Sutphin | 6’1” PG | Floyd County
Sutphin is a do-it-all guard who can run the show well and does a little bit of everything to help his team win. He’s a tough nosed kid with a great mentality to the game as a hard worker, and he’s a natural leader that makes it easy for guys to follow him. He can make others better, he can shoot it from deep and attack off the bounce and he rebounds extremely well for his size and position.
Aiden Proudfoot | 5’9” PG | Christiansburg
Proudfoot is quietly one of the best lead guards in the New River Valley and is part of a Christiansburg team that has some under the radar talent and should surprise some people next year. He’s a savvy and crafty lead guard with a good handle and the ability to set the tone on both ends, he has the ability to score it in bunches off the bounce and create for others and he brings a toughness and competitiveness you can’t teach.
CJ Goode | 6’3” WF | William Fleming
Goode has quietly been a great glue guy over the past few years at Fleming and had a breakout year as a junior. He’s a bully of a wing who is a good athlete for his size, he’s able to get downhill with the ball in his hands where he can use his size to finish through traffic and get to the rim and he rebounds well and can guard multiple positions. Next year along with fellow rising senior Donovan St. Juste Donovan St. Juste 6'4" | SF William Fleming | 2021 State VA , Fleming should be one of the dark horse candidates out of the Roanoke area.
Kamari Braswell | 6’0” G | Catholic
Braswell was the spark off the bench for Catholic this year in his sixth man role and was one of the top scoring guards in the 757 before he got hurt this year. He’s a dynamic athlete with the ball in his hands as he has good quickness and speed when he gets downhill, he can create space and make shots off the bounce and he brings energy to both ends of the floor. He’s a natural scorer who should have a breakout senior year next year.
Zakari McQueen | 6’1” G | Matoaca
McQueen got lost in my rankings because I had only seen Matoaca once this year but he was one of the top breakout guys in the Richmond area. He’s a long and athletic combo guard that gets end-to-end very quickly, he has great burst and a dynamic first step and he’s able to live in the paint where he can make plays for himself and others. He’s a natural scorer off the bounce who can create space and make contested shots from all over the floor and can flat out fill it up throughout the game.
Larry Wright | 6’4” F | Potomac
Wright is part of a talented 2021 class at Potomac who maybe doesn’t get all of the love the other guys do but his energy and athleticism made him one of the top glue guys in the area. Wright is a guy who will do whatever it takes to help his team win as he’s a tenacious defender and a good rebounder, he understands his role and makes the right plays within the the system and he’s an athletic guy who can finish at and above the rim as well.
Leon Farley | 6’5” PF | Forrest Park
Farley is a high motor and energy guy who may be a little undersized at his position but he makes up for it with his mix of strength and athleticism in the paint. He has a mix of old school post and new school rim runner as he’s able to score with his back to the basket, he can run the floor and finish in transition and he’s a guy who doesn’t need the ball in his hands that much to succeed as he’ll go get it on the glass. He holds the paint down on both ends and he’s a great athlete who can finish above the rim or protect the rim off the vert.
Elijah Kennedy | 6’3” WG | Green Run
Kennedy had a breakout year and emerged as one of the top shooters in Virginia Beach, and I’m really kicking myself for forgetting him because he was named to the All State team after helping Green Run to the state championship. Kennedy is a shooter with good size and consistency from deep, he doesn’t need a lot of time to get his shot off and he’s constantly moving without the ball to get open. He’s also a playmaker on the defensive end as he has great feel and good energy both on and off the basketball.
