NorCal is wide ranging, and has a lot good basketball players who could play at the next level, whether it’s Division I, II, III, or Juco. This group of players stood out most, in their respective counties, and leagues during the basketball season.
Aaron Garibay 5’10 Guard Palma HS (Salinas CA)
A fast and speedy guard was MVP in league. He also was the 6th man, when was the last time we had an MVP come off the bench in high school. He didn’t complain he ignited his team to the league title and a spot into the CCS Playoffs. Garibay led his team in scoring 12.2 ppg, was a consistent shooter from behind the arc at 43 percent . He’s a tenacious player on defense, often anticipating where the pass was headed before it was made, leading to steals, and non contested baskets in transition.
Jadan Adams Jadan Adams 5'11" | PG Monterey | 2021 State CA-N 5’10 Point Guard, Monterey HS (Monterey CA)
Adams an athletic point guard with solid ball handling skills, emerged as one of the top playmakers in the county. A first team all league selection averaged 14.8 ppg game and was the team leader in assists. Adams has the handles and quickness to blow by defenders for points or deliver good passes to teammates for open looks. A confident prospect who plays with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. He has good foot speed and can guard most guards end to end.
Duncan Ellis Duncan Ellis 6'3" | SG Christopher | 2021 State CA-N 6’3 Wing, Christopher HS (Gilroy CA)
Ellis is an improving prospect who’ll raise his stock next season if he continues to put in work during the summer. He’s a good athlete with a body that looks like it will get stronger. He has good shooting form and lift, often shooting over defenders on his mid-range jumper. A good conditioned player. With improved ball handling, range on his jumper, he could be more than 1st team all league.
Scott Pramuk 6’2 Shooting Guard, Santa Cruz HS (SAnta Cruz CA)
A hard playing physical prospect with a nice shooting stroke from behind the arc. A good player in transition who is looked for by his teammates because he can hit the 3. He moves well without the ball on the perimeter, screening and cutting to get himself open for shots, while not forcing it. He doesn’t waste time holding the ball, either shoot it or move it. He uses his body to get shots off inside.
Jojo Moreno 5’7 Point Guard, Aptos HS (Aptos CA)
I’m not surprised that Moreno was Co-MVP in league. 5’7 guys usually play with a ton of heart and hustle. He led his team in scoring 12.7, assists 2.6, and stls with 55. He’s a well rounded player who probably could’ve scored more often. He worked hard to have balance and involve teammates.
Max Walters 6’1 Guard, Soquel HS, (Soquel CA)
Walters shared Co-MVP honors with Moreno in the Santa Cruz Coast League. Walters stepped up his game this season becoming an aggressive player and looking to increase his scoring for the good of the team. He’s an excellent shooter from beyond the arc, often hustling in transition to the corner and wings for 3’s which he knocked down at good rate. His shooting opened up opportunities for others. He averaged 17 ppg, 7 rebs, and dished out 4 asts per game. I look forward to seeing him next season.
Drew Gumin 5’10 Point guard, Gilroy HS (Gilroy CA)
Gumin is the ultimate pass first point guard, looking to effectively run half court sets, push and pass in transition when the opportunity arises, yet having the ability to score when the team needed a bucket. He averaged 14.9 ppg, shot 82% from the free throw line, his 90 assists and 84 steals in 25 games standsout.
