Continue ReadingThe 2019-20 high school basketball regular season and playoffs have long been over, but there are still are quite a few unsigned seniors left who have not yet committed to a college. With all travel ball events being put on indefinite hold, unsigned seniors didn’t get one final opportunity to showcase themselves to college coaches.
In addition to that, the NCAA transfer portal exploded, and college coaches seemingly opted to go with more proven college talent than taking a chance on a senior in the absence of the spring live period.
Here are some seniors I’ve watched this season who are still unsigned and could probably help a college team at some level, whether that be D1-DIII or even NAIA and JuCo.
Jalen Ashley Jalen Ashley 6'3" | SF Rock Canyon | 2020 State CO – Rock Canyon
Ashley was one of the underappreciated gems in the state for the last couple of years, and when you look at all-around games, he checked off many boxes that apply to play at the next level. Ashley is a skilled combo-guard with size that at 6’3 has the strength to step out on the wing. Ashley was the most reliable scorer for Rock Canyon at 15.7 points a game as he was the only player to score in double figures. Ashley is dangerous in the open court as he dunks in transition, makes up his mind by getting to the rim, and is challenging to slow down, but also could step out and knock down the 3-ball where he shot 35% from beyond the arc. Ashley has the speed and strength to defend multiple positions and was also one of the team’s best rebounders. A school at the next level will be getting one of the state’s best overall players. He comes with a mature game and is very balanced. I would highly recommend schools getting after him and fast.

Talin Unruh – Valor Christian
Unruh is one of the most underrated gems that the state had to offer last season and was a big reason that Valor Christian was remaining as a Final Four team. The 6’5 wing scored from all three levels and was valuable down the home stretch as he found a rhythm and kept it, and it was no surprise that once he found it – Valor Christian started to win. Unruh had the strength and speed to defend multiple positions and also showcased that he could do a bit of everything offensively. Unruh finished with 11.5 points and 3.5 rebounds a game but played within the flow of the offense and made plays happen. I would highly recommend Unruh as one of the top prospects remaining, and he should be getting more college attention.
Trevon Deden Trevon Deden 6'3" | CG Overland | 2020 State CO – Overland
Deden is a high IQ player that makes an impact on the court and in the classroom. Last season for the Trailblazers, the 6’2 guard/wing was the teams leading scorer and who the offense relied on to score. Deden erupted for a couple of big games last season like when he went for 33 points against Fairfax or 22 against Smoky Hill. He plays well off of the ball as he finds gams in the defense and is a knockdown shooter when left open. When he gets hot, he is a microwave that can score in bunches but is best as a role player that fits plenty of systems. If a small school is looking for a shooter with range, Deden is a player I would go with.
Isaac Jessup – Resurrection Christian
Jessup is still available as of right now, and you have to think that he will make a big splash soon. Jessup is my No.1 or No.2 choice for best available and is a player that showed consistency as one of the most rounded players in the state this season. Jessup was a top-15 player, and one of the biggest reasons that Resurrection Christian went 25-0 on the year and were heavy favorites to win it all. Jessup had a balanced stat line as he averaged 16.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and five steals a game. He is a two-way lockdown defender that shot lights out from deep, hitting 44%of his shots from beyond the arc. He also got to the lane and finished with either hand and can play positions 1-4. Jessup is a player that should be highly sought after and is one of, if not the best available.
Donovan Stilson Donovan Stilson 6'2" | PF Eaglecrest | 2020 State CO – Eaglecrest
Stilson was one of the consistent players for Eaglecrest on the defensive end this season and was a player that starred in his role. Stilson is a playmaking combo-guard/wing that played multiple positions and also put teammates in positions to succeed. Stilson was one of the team’s best ballhandlers and broke defenders down off of the dribble. Stilson has a solid mid-range pull-up jumper and also makes it a point to go right at the opposing defender, which opened things up for Eaglecrest. Stilson averaged 4.3 points and four boards a game as a 6’3 wing that crashed the glass and is a hard worker on both ends of the floor. Small schools can take a chance.
